P6P Week Beginning 7th September 2020

We have made it to the end of yet another busy week in P6. Well done to everyone who achieved an award this week and to everyone who performed their speech for the vice captain role.

This week in maths we have been looking at perimeter and had the opportunity to measure the perimeter of objects in the class and outdoors. In literacy we have been writing more interesting stories and have been learning about collective nouns. We also started our new topic Forces and Friction and have enjoyed the related activities this week.

HOME CHALLENGE 14/09/20

As part of our new topic we were investigating the forces push and pull around the classroom. Can you look for examples of a push and a pull around your house that you can share with the class next week?

Also, continue to practice this weeks spelling words:

above

across

both

brought

called

change

Have a lovely, well deserved weekend.

P4 Weekly Blog 7.9.20

Happy Friday everyone!

We’ve had a fantastic week in school. Here are some things we have been learning about:

  • The seven continents and their climate zones
  • Adjectives
  • Place Value

For your home learning tasks this week, try to practice your place value by going onto Education City and trying your place value challenge again. The pupils have already had a go at this in class and should know how to find this task. Once logged in, go to the “classwork” section and look for the icon that says “Place Value Challenge.”

Another thing we have been working on is our spelling of common words. Here’s a list of the ones we have covered so far:

day, I, had, mum, children, made, of, my, one, him, came, called, she, have, big, oh, here, is, went, when

Try an at home spelling test this week to check if there are any we need to practice.

Have a lovely weekend!

P1L and P1R week beginning 14/9/20

Hello everyone!

This week in primary one, we have been looking at pattern and creating our own using shape, cubes and toys. Try to spot some patterns in the community, on clothing, on tv or in games (hint: animals have patterns).

We have been working on the sound ‘i’ and have been continuing learning to read some common words. For this week’s task you should share a story and try to spot ‘a’ ‘at’ or ‘the’ in it. If you want to make it a challenge, you could count how many times you see each word.

Have a lovely week and enjoy the holiday when it comes!

Mrs Carey and Miss Walley 🙂

P5 Weeks Beginning 14th and 21st September 2020

Happy Monday P5,

Over the last few days we have been practising our 4x and 8x tables and our knowledge of them is growing every day which is magnificent.

We have also been talking about our emotions and recognising how people show or demonstrate their emotions.

Our new topic is Light and Sound.  We attempted an experiment outdoors to measure how far away from our classmates we were when we could hear them whisper, talk normally and shout.  There were a lot of other noises outside too, such as the sound of traffic, so we are going to try the experiment again on another dry day.

As you know, week beginning 14th September, is a really short week, so is week beginning 21st September.  So, your Homework Activities in this week’s Blog are challenges for both of those weeks.

HOME NUMERACY CHALLENGE

Can you learn the 3x Table?

Here are the 3x Table facts, with 2 challenging facts to learn which are at the end:

0 x 3 = 0

1 x 3 = 3

2 x 3 = 6

3 x 3 = 9

4 x 3 = 12

5 x 3 = 15

6 x 3 = 18

7 x 3 = 21

8 x 3 = 24

9 x 3 = 27

10 x 3 = 30

11 x 3 =  33

12 x 3 =  36

Good Luck!

HOME SPELLING CHALLENGE

Over the last few weeks I have noticed that there are some words which many of us are finding a wee bit tricky, so I thought that, over the next couple of weeks, we could practise spelling them:

1. said

2. were

3. where

4. when

5. because

6. called

7. some

8. going

9. there

10. come

Firstly, practise reading the words aloud.  Then, try to practise how to spell these words by playing some of the games which we play in class.  You will soon be able to use these words in your writing when you feel happy with your super duper spelling skills.

Have fun,

from,

Miss Steedman

P6W: week beginning 7th September 2020

This week has been very busy and I’m sure we’re looking forward to a restful weekend.

Well done to those pupils who got their name on our Recognition Board everyday.  Superb! – keep it up!

We have started our Science topic on Forces and Friction and have been investigating the forces we use in our everyday lives.  In Numeracy and Maths we have been exploring different ways to multiply 2 digits by 1 digit as well as revising digital and analogue time. The focus in Literacy has been looking at the features of narrative text to help us plan, structure and write interesting stories.  We have continued to look at how to develop a Growth Mindset and we used visualisation to illustrate what this means.

Home Challenge:

  • read a narrative text (fiction story / novel) for at least 15 minutes – take a note of your starting time and finishing time and record these times in digital and analogue format  e.g. Starting Time:  7.30pm /  half past 7 in the evening                                                                       Finishing Time: 7.45pm / quarter to 8 in the evening

Enjoy your weekend.

P7 – Week beginning 7th September

Everyone in P7 has been working extremely hard this week!  We have had two consecutive days with all pupils achieving our recognition board target of listening well and giving their best effort; well done P7s!

We have been busy developing problem solving skills through investigating different number systems.  Challenge: teach someone at home how to use Roman numerals.

For science, we carried out another experiment to find out why we use soap, and not just water, when washing our hands.  We are getting good at predicting what we think will happen in an experiment and giving reasons, before finding out the actual results.

The atmosphere in the classroom was of total concentration while doing imaginative writing on Wednesday; I was very impressed by the motivation and enthusiasm around the room!

Home Learning Tasks – 14.09.20

  • Continue trying to read for 15-30minutes each day.  This could be reading on your own, with an adult or reading a story to a younger sibling.
  • The power of positive thinking – at the end of each day, I would like you to think of the best thing(s) about your day.  You can choose to write these down as a daily list or tell someone in your family.  Think of anything that has made you smile or feel good that day.  Examples: feeling proud of a piece of work; someone giving you a compliment; you doing something kind for someone else; having your favourite dinner; seeing a friend or relative; hearing a funny joke; taking part in a game; spending time with a pet…
  • Keep practising any times tables you find tricky.

Please remember a rain jacket on Monday for our outdoor session.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Johnstone

P6P Week Beginning 31st August 2020

Hello P6,

We have made it to week four already. Everyone has made a great start and are settling in well to the new routines – well done.

There has been lots of great work going on so far in class. Last week were were revising place value, writing interesting stories and having lots of fun with drama, as well as enjoying reading the Roald Dahl novel ‘Matilda’. We also had a visit from Mrs White who took us outside to learn more about maths in the outdoors and we all found it really interesting.

HOME CHALLENGE 07/09/20

Have a think about one of your best days ever. Why was it the best day ever? How did you feel? I look forward to you sharing your stories in class throughout the week. We will be building on these ideas in this weeks piece of writing.

Have a lovely evening.

Miss McLeish
