Week beginning 19th October

Hello primary 2b,

Hope you all had a lovely holiday and got up to lots of nice things. We have been working so hard already since starting the new term. We will be finishing our weather topic this week, looking at the weather in Spain and comparing it to Scotland. I think we will see some big differences in the types of weather. Thank you to everyone who managed to make a rain gauge to measure the rain fall (an optional task from the last post) we talked about this in class and I was very impressed.  We have also been working on a very tricky sound this week – ng. Ask us what to tell/show you the sound and action.

Please watch this video of the jolly phonics sounds. Skip to 8:35 to practice our joined phonemes we have been working on sh, ch, th and ng.

https://youtu.be/qTqfptkcpcY

red/green groups phoneme words and common words

string  strong  bring  thing  bang

Old  do  going

blue groups phoneme words and common words

song  bang  ping  sing  ring

Am  me  my

Please practice these words and encourage other words that have the “ng” sound. A fantastic one said in class today was “annoying.”

On the last day before the holidays we were doing all sorts of experiments about weather. We tested material to check if they waterproof, we made a rain cloud in a jar to help understand why it rains (ask us why) and we looked at how tornadoes are formed and made them in a bottle. We even tried to make lightning however, the class was too bright to see the lightning as it needs to be very very dark. We tried our best but could not get it dark enough so I promised the class I would put it on here for you to try at home if you want to.

You will need Styrofoam, an aluminium tin, a pencil with a rubber on the end, a pin, a fork and something woollen.

  1. Pierce the pin through the tin and onto the rubber of the pencil so that the pencil is sticking up.

  2. Use the wool to rub the styrofoam for 1 minute, longer if it doesn’t work, might take a few tries.

  3. Using the pencil place the tin on top of the styrofoam.

  4. Slowly use your finger or the fork to touch the tin and hopefully you will see some lightning.

We unfortunately couldn’t see it but Miss Baillie did get 2 electric shocks and we heard some crackling when putting the fork on the tin. Hopefully you are able to see it. Good luck. And if you give it a try, make sure you let the class know all about it.

Have a fabulous week,

Miss Baillie

Welcome back P7,

Lovely to see everyone back after the holidays.

We have made a great start to work on significant people in history, beginning this term with John Muir. Try telling someone at home who John Muir is and why he is remembered today.

Home Learning

This week, I would like you to look in the homework folder on www.educationcity.com.  You have been assigned three activities to try between today and next Friday (30th).  Please let me know if you have any problems.

Keep up the great work,

P3 ~ Water Cycle homework task

We have been learning all about the water cycle and are very good at using and explaining what happens using some long scientific names!

To show off what we have learned there is a homework task. We have looked in class at some ideas and different ways to present our learning. The link to the task is here.

The Water Cycle homework

The date for the project to be ready is Friday the 23rd of October.

Let’s hope for no precipitation during our holidays!

Have fun being creative

Mrs McMillan 🙂

P6P Week Beginning 5th October 2020

Hello P6P,

We have made it to the end of term one and what a quick term it has been! Everyone has settled in very well to the school year, adapting to the changes around the school.

This week we completed the CANI Coaching programme. Throughout the week we participated in many team activities and challenges, developing our communication and team working skills. I think one of our favourite challenges this week was the stretchy band challenge where we had to get all of our team members through the stretchy band in the quickest time possible. Team one achieved the record score of 32 seconds! We also explored our personal values and set out goals for the future. We finished off the coaching programme with a graduation ceremony where everyone presented what they had been learning about throughout the week and received their certificates – it was a great success!

HOME CHALLENGE

For your home challenge we will continue to practice our times tables:

  • Google search www.topmarks.co.uk.
  • In the search bar at the top, type in ‘times tables’.
  • Select the first game on the list – Hit the Button.
  • You can choose which times tables you would like to try (try to choose ones that you need more practice with).
  • You can also select the mixed option to be challenged on all your times tables.
  • Try a few times and see if you can beat your high score each time – good luck!

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday!

Miss McLeish 🙂

P7 09.10.20

Well done to everyone in P7 for settling back in at school so well this term.  What a quick term it has been!

This week we have been very busy writing news reports, finishing off our materials from Earth topic and completing one-point perspective drawings.

In our outdoor space, we were looking for examples of symmetry in our natural surroundings and creating beautiful nature collages.  We were so lucky to have another sunny afternoon on Monday!

We have also been getting to grips with how to use MS Teams through Glow.  Something we have been exploring is how to use the collaboration space – which is a document that we can all contribute to at the same time!

Thank you for sending in or showing me your videos/photos in response to the home learning task.  If you haven’t managed to show me yet, I will look forward to seeing your work after the break.

I hope you all enjoy the October holidays.

Take care,

Mrs J
