P6W: week beginning 9th November 2020
Hello P6!
It’s Friday again, what a quick week! We’re rounding off our busy week with some Children In Need activities in the classroom. I know lots of pupils have decided to wear pyjamas to school to help raise money for this cause – your £1 donations will be greatly appreciated.
This week in maths, we have been learning how to calculate the perimeter of regular and irregular shapes. We enjoyed using measuring tapes and rulers to find the perimeters of surfaces in the classroom. Next week we will be taking our learning outdoors and finding perimeters in the playground. Our spelling focus this week is words with the prefixes tele, trans, kilo and fore.

We have also finished off our science topic with an end of topic assessment. Some of us found it quite tricky! Well done to Noah, Katie-Leigh, Taylor and Reece for achieveing super scores! We will be starting our new topic, The Victorians, next week.
HOME CHALLENGE:
- Write out the 6x table and the dividing by 6 table
- Go to the Topmarks website and play Hit The Button at least three times.

P3 Week beginning 9.11.20
Another busy week last week in P3 and we were learning about Remembrance Day. We did art together to make big poppies and poppy wreaths for our classroom windows.
We were also learning addition strategies in maths. We looked at the counting on strategy and also bridging. Ask us to teach you – it’s one of the best ways of ensuring that we have managed the strategy.

And last but not least – there were absolutely fabulous posters and models created for our water cycle task. Great job everyone, and the explanations about evaporation, condensation and precipitation were excellent. Super job P3. Everyone was very impressed.

Primary 2B – week beginning 9th November
Hello Primary 2B,
Hope we all enjoyed our weekend and are all set for the new week. This week we will be starting our new topic – food and farming. Ask your family what they know about farming. They might even know someone who is a farmer. This week we will be exploring different technology that farmers use such as, combine harvesters. We are focusing on our addition strategies as well this week and last week we were counting 10 from any number and with a bit more practice we will be super at this.
I made a mistake on the last blog post about the new days for reading books. Very sorry! Biff will get new reading books on Monday and Thursday. Kipper and Floppy will both get new reading books on Tuesday and Friday. Remember to practice the books at home and always put them back in your bag as we use them every day. Ask your child to retell the story and quiz them to find certain words within the book for an extra challenge.
We have been looking at the “ee” phoneme this week. A bit of a nicer phoneme than last week as we have lots of words with “ee.” Here are this weeks words for the groups and common words that need to be practised.
Red group – green three sleep sheep queen
one first little
Green group – feel tree need deep
one first little me
Blue group – pin pat pan cap nap
go got get
Home learning task – last week we took pictures of objects in the classroom and learned that the objects are called common nouns. Go on a noun hunt. You can use a camera or your own eyes. Try and find 10 nouns. REMEMBER if you can photograph something it is probably a noun.
Could I also ask for a favour? If you can spare them, could you possibly send in the cardboard part of your kitchen roll and toilet roll when they are done with them over the next few weeks. Only if you have them to spare and are not needing them for something yourself. Please don’t buy extra, just if you can spare it. We will be using them to make adding machines and will need some in December for Christmas crafts. Thanks very much in advance.

P7 Monday 9th November
Welcome back to a new week!
This week we will be exploring negative numbers; learning how to manage our email inboxes and thinking about Remembrance Day through a variety of activities.
Today we were all able to log-on to our Nessy accounts and start exploring the activities available to help develop our spelling and reading skills.
Rugby training also got off to a flying start with lots of great passing and catching being demonstrated.
Home Learning Tasks
- We spoke today about logging on to Teams at home. I would like you all to try logging on through your Glow accounts. You can add Teams to your launch pad (if you did not do it in class) or use the App. You should use your Glow username and password to access our Teams page.
- Please answer the questions in the ‘Dark Isle’ channel, remembering to write in sentences, with capital letters and full stops in the appropriate places.
- You will find your spelling words in the ‘Spelling’ channel. Practise these at home. We spoke today about practising joined-up handwriting too, so you may choose to do this at the same time by writing your words out. Try talking to someone at home about your words and use them in conversation. Red, yellow and green groups: can you identify the suffixes?
- Develop your understanding of negative numbers by playing the two games I have assigned you on Education City in the homework folder.

YouTube Channel for Numeracy and Maths
Good morning!
If you are looking for a fun way to help your child at home with maths, the YouTube channel “Numberock” is a fantastic resource.
The channel focuses on maths songs which are fun and engaging and more suitable for P4-7. They cover a range of maths topics from times tables to measure. To find it, just go onto youtube and type in “Numberock” and the channel should come up.
From there, if you go onto the playlists tab, you will be able to scroll through and find hundreds of resources! One of my favourite topics they cover is times tables. They do songs based on skip counting (eg 4 times table = 4, 8, 12, 16 etc) and the songs are in a rap style.

P4 Weekly Blog 9.11.20
Happy Monday everyone!
Hope you all had a lovely weekend and maybe even got to see some fireworks light up the night sky.
Home Learning Tasks
- For grammar, we have been learning about onomatopoeias. Remember, they are sound words! Watch the video to remind you of some examples of onomatopeias. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBQCgjo1QTU
After you watch it, try writing your own onomatopoeia alphabet! Some might be quite tricky but see how many you can come up with! Eg B=bash C=crackle D= ding etc. - Keep working on your class talks- remember they will be next Thursday and Friday 19/20th November.
- Log into Education City and look in your homework– I’ve set you a challenge to do with rounding to the nearest 10. We will be looking at rounding this week. Watch the learn screen to learn how to do it then try the game “All Ears”. The homework task is called 9.11.20. Good luck!

P6W week beginning 2nd November 2020
Hello again,
It’s been another busy week. Well done to the pupils who received Star of the Day, Over and Above and Star Worker awards this week. We have also had lots of pupils with their name on our Recognition Board every day. Keep up the good work.
This week we have been working hard to finish off our Forces topic. We looked at the effects of magnetism and carried out some practical investigations. Next week we will revise what we have learned to prepare us for our end of topic assessment. For taught writing we wrote acrostic poems about fireworks then used pastels to create a dramatic background for our poems. Today we took our maths outside and used trundle wheels to measure length. To commemorate Poppy Day, we worked in groups to make large collage poppies . We then put them in our classroom windows.
HOME CHALLENGE
Magnet Hunt: have a look around your house to find 3 or 4 uses of magnets. List and/or draw what you find.
Number Talks: show a parent or carer how to do one of the following strategies
- repeated subtraction * addition grids * adding doubles/near doubles

P1R and P1L – Monday 9th November
This week we have enjoyed the story The Smartest Giant in town by Julia Donaldson. We have been working on pattern and sequence. We made repeat pattern paper chains and fish. This week our sound was ‘m’ for monkey. Can you find things around your house beginning with ‘m’? Lots of animals have patterns and we talked about patterns on our clothes and in our homes. Which patterns can you see in your bedroom? Please continue to work on the common words a, at and the. Next week we will continue exploring pattern and our new sound will be ‘d’ for dog.
