P2B – Week beginning 16th November

Hello Primary 2B,

We have had an excellent start to our week today. We all worked very hard on our maths, spelling and reading work. We also revised our knowledge on farms and I was very impressed that we could remember the names of some of the farm equipment farmers use to help them. We were able to name and describe a combine harvester, plough, tractor, seed drill, baler and water sprinkler machines. We are now looking at the different types of farms (arable and livestock) and what they do.

Family learning task – We are going to discuss this week what farms might look like. Do they have different sections for different animals or vegetables. Do they have grass? Mud? A barn? A chicken coop? A pond? As a challenge, over the next couple of weeks I am going to ask, if possible, if families could work together to create their own farm. I’m sure P2B will have lots of ideas on what their farm could look like and able to map it out. This task won’t be due for a few weeks to give you plenty of time. Give your farm a name and use any resources you want to create your farm. If you need any resources please feel free to ask and I’ll see what I can do. This task can be as simple as drawing your farm on paper if you wish. I have attached some examples below. Just for inspiration.

As I said it can be a drawing of the farm. Below I have a attached a document that can be used to create your farm if you wish (just ignore the answer sheet, I couldn’t save it without it).

This won’t be due until 4th of December (2 weeks on Friday) so take your time and enjoy! I cannot wait to see the different creations. Good luck!

Ask us to tell you some some words with the “oo” phoneme.  Below are the phoneme words for each group and their common words to practice.

RED – broom  mood  shook  stool  spoon

had  see  has

GREEN – mood  fool  look  spoon

had  see  has  my

BLUE – hen  pen  jet  red  get

if  for  on

Choose an activity from the grid to complete at home to practice your words. Feel free to do more than one.

Just a reminder that the parents night phone call times have went into the children’s bags today. Have a lovely week everybody,

Miss Baillie

Videos To Help With Spelling And Phonemes

Morning everyone!

I have been looking for a website that may be useful at home to help support with spelling and phonics.

Throughout the school, we approach spelling by investigating phonemes (or sounds) and this approach is used from P1-7 as well as looking at spelling rules and patterns.

BBC Bitesize have a list of short video clips that would allow pupils to hear the sound and have short exercises after listening. The videos would be most appropriate for P2-4. To access them, copy and paste the link below or google search “BBC Bitesize ks1 phonics”. I hope this is useful!

P4 Week Beginning 16.11.20

Good morning!
I hope you had a lovely weekend. Can you believe we’re halfway through November already!? The weeks are just flying in.

Home Learning Tasks

  1. Class Talks– our class talks are this week and will be on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th November. Pupils were asked to choose an animal, research their animal, write a class talk and practice that talk at home. This has been a focus for home learning for the month of November. Make sure you are prepared this week and are ready to deliver your talks on Thursday and Friday.
  2. Maths– we have been working on our rounding skills in maths and have had practice rounding to the nearest 10. We have now begun to look at rounding to the nearest 100 as well. Click on the link below or google search for the game called “Rocket Rounding” on the website Topmarks. You can choose whether to practice rounding to the nearest 10 or nearest 100. Good luck!

  3. Literacy– last week we had a look at the reading strategy called Word Attack. This strategy involves using phonemes or sounds to help sound tricky or unfamiliar words out. Practice using this strategy at home by playing the game “Blending Bingo” on Topmarks. You can choose your own level and work on particular phonemes if you wish. I know the witches spelling group is focusing on the phoneme “igh”, the wands are looking at “ee/oo” and the cats are looking at “h”.

Have a great week everyone!

P1R

This week we have been very busy learning about ‘The Smartest Giant’ and we were very good at sequencing the story and exploring the characters in the story and how they felt. We have also being doing lots of work on pattern and sorting linked to the story. We have had great fun making some clothes for the giant to display in our class.

We continue to work on the common words a, at, the, I, is and the. Keep looking for them in your books at home.

We have began looking at dot patterns for numbers up to 6 and there is a game on Education City you can try at home that we have been doing in class which you can try at home called ‘Spot the dots’ . Please play a game at home that involves a dice.

P6P Week Beginning 9th November 2020

Hello P6P,

We have all been working hard this week in P6. Well done to this weeks award winners and prize winners – keep up the good work!

This week in maths we have been exploring 3D shapes. We can confidently name all of the shapes and we have now been learning about the properties of 3D shapes. We were also creating accurate drawings of 3D shapes to be displayed in the classroom. Next week we will be looking at 3D shapes in the environment and will be taking our learning outdoors.

In art we have been continuing with our observational drawing, focusing on line, tone, texture and pattern. We began to create fantastic drawings of our favourite meals and will have the opportunity to finish them off next week.

We ended the week with a fun filled day of Children in Need activities, dressed in our pyjamas to raise money for a great cause.

HOME CHALLENGE 16/11/20

Next week we will be starting our new topic, The Victorians. For your home challenge this week I would like you to think about the following questions and share your ideas with me next week:

  • What do you know already about the Victorians?
  • What would you like to know about the Victorian era?

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss McLeish 🙂

Thank you for all your donations!

Here are our nice pictures…

And here are our silly ones! Hope they made you smile, have a good weekend!

P1L – Friday 13th November 2002

We have been working so hard all week! We have been learning about the phonic ‘d’. We made ducks and dinosaurs and they look lovely on the wall in our classroom. We have been really busy making patterns using collage materials, outdoor materials and stampers. We are continuing to explore our common words and had fun playing ‘splat’ and ‘frying pan flip’. Please continue to learn your common words at  home. We are focusing on it, in, is, the, and,is. We will be looking at dot patterns next week.  Can you play a dice game and see how quickly you can recognise how many spots are on each side of the dice? I hope you have fun. We enjoyed Children In Need Day and made lots of Pudsey’s and a huge spotty paperchain. We enjoyed wearing our pyjamas and onesies too. Have a lovely weekend!
