New Scottish Child Payment
From Monday 9th November Social Security Scotland are open for applications for the new Scottish Child Payment. This new benefit will not be payable until the end of February and the date of entitlement is not until 15th February but by opening the application process 3 months early it is hoped that applications will be processed in advance of the eligibility date and for those who are eligible, to receive the payment timeously without unnecessary delay.
This payment is a fixed £10 per week for every eligible child under the age of 6 and will be paid 4 weekly. The age group for entitlement will be extended to older children in stages but under the present criteria it is anticipated in East Ayrshire that approximately 4,000 children will be entitled to the new payment. This could make a significant difference in our attempts to challenge child poverty.
The payment is payable to every eligible child in the household so families with 2 children under the age of 6 will receive £20 per week and so on.
And as this is a new Scottish benefit, it can not be taken into account by the DWP as an income for any other means tested benefit.

P6P Week Beginning 30th November 2020
Hello P6P,
I can’t believe it is December already with only two weeks to go before the Christmas holidays!
On Monday some of us came to school wearing tartan to celebrate St. Andrews Day. In class we looked at who St. Andrew was and why we celebrate St. Andrews Day on the 30th of November each year. We also explored famous Scottish inventors and inventions and created posters and PowerPoint presentations to share our research.
In maths we have been looking at 3D shape nets. We have been building nets, designing nets and drawing them on our own. We also played a nets matching game that everyone did really well in. We also started looking at tiling with shape and will continue with this next week.
We have also been busy with our topic, learning more about Queen Victoria. We presented our findings from our research activity and then moved onto some art work. We have been creating portraits of Queen Victoria using a range of materials to create collages. They are looking great and I can’t wait to see them all when they are finished!
HOME CHALLENGE 07/12/20
I would like you to revise some of the shape work we have been doing in class.
- Can you draw a range of 3D shapes, labelling all of their properties?
- Can you create nets for some of the 3D shapes we have been learning about?
- Can you create a tiling pattern?
- Have a go at the ‘Shapes in Space’ game. Type Topmarks into google and click on the first link that it shows up. Then, in the search bar on Topmarks search for Shapes in Space. How many points can you get? Can you beat your score?
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss McLeish 🙂

P5 Week Beginning 7th December 2020
Happy Monday Everyone,
I hope that you have all had a wonderful weekend.
Last week, each of us chose a Parisian Landmark to learn about, so spent some time researching facts which we could include in a poster. The posters are going to be presented to our classmates soon and I am really excited to learn all about these iconic landmarks.
This Friday (11th December), we have our Christmas Party which will be lots of fun and I am sure that you are all looking forward to it.
Your Homework Challenges this week involve 2 new representations of the i phoneme – ie and y and also some revision activities on Education City. You will find all of the details in the attached document here:

Good luck and have fun,

Spectacular Snowman Art Installation!
Well done to everyone for creating these amazing Snowmen!
The challenge was to make an art installation to cheer up the local community using plastics that were being thrown out. I think you’ll agree that this display has brought some festive cheer!
P7 had the tricky job of making the basic snowman with Miss Mair, using plastics and hoops. They assisted Miss Mair in assembling them on the fence.
P6 made fantastic trees from canes and green plastic to add to the display.
Each class decided how to decorate their snowman.
Have a look at the Snowmen, I wonder if you can guess what theme each class chose?
LOVE IS…
BRINGING FESTIVE CHEER!
WE WISH YOU ALL A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A BETTER NEW YEAR!

P2B – Week beginning 30th November
Hello Primary 2B,
I cannot believe we are in December now already! The last couple of months have flown by. Thank you to all of the parents for participating in parents night, it was lovely to speak to you all. If you have any concerns or questions please feel free to contact me.
On Monday we wore tartan to celebrate St Andrews Day and looked absolutely smashing. We learned who St Andrew was, read his story and looked up where St Andrews is on Google Earth too. We had fun using Google Earth to explore Scotland and the United Kingdom and even found Hurlford Primary School. We really enjoyed this and as it is the week that the farms are due and I know you will be very busy so the home learning task this week is to go on Google Earth and look up different places. You could look up Spain, France, America etc or specific towns and cities like Glasgow, Edinburgh, Paris etc. Just type Google Earth into google search and it should come up or use this link – https://earth.google.com/web/
Here are some pictures from St Andrew’s day with our finished cards.

Spelling
As always, please practice spelling words, the phoneme this week is “ai.” Common words are tricky and some cannot by spelled phonologically and just need to be learnt so please practice.
Red – brain train stair chair paint
like made make
Green – rain sail hair chair
went like made make
Blue – pig gap dog got get
was went his
Feel free to use the activities on the grid below for spelling activities.

Thank you to everyone who managed on to Education City. I said in the post last week that I couldn’t give out Education City passwords but I have since found out that we can, it is just Glow that we cannot give out. I’m sure most people know the users and passwords and the class were able to tell me them but I will send them home this week just to be safe. Nothing on Education City this week but last weeks tasks are still up for anyone that did not manage them.
Have a fantastic week,
Miss Baillie 🙂

Hello All!
Happy December!!! It seems like November went so fasst.
Here are a few photos from the past month for you to see some of what the children have been doing.

We had great fun in our pj’s for Children In Need. The children all looked so cosy. They also looked super for Be Bright! Be seen day. We will be talking more about Road Safety in January.
We do outdoor learning activities every Thursday morning, even if it’s rainy! The children love the range of activities. This term we are doing some weight, symmetry and data handling activities. Make sure to come in warm clothes and a waterproof jacket on a Thursday.
Hope the start of December is going well for everyone!
