An East Ayrshire Council School

P1R and P1L Merry Christmas

It’s been a very exciting week in primary one with the Christmas trees going up and the opening of advent calendars. The children have been telling us what their Elf has been up to before coming to school.

In school we have been busy making our snowmen – Kipper and Biff for the fence and as it’s getting colder we made bird feeders with apples and sunflower seeds in the playground to ensure that the birds don’t go hungry now that winter has arrived.

In class this week we have been learning about the phoneme k and the rhyme ap. The children are getting very good at recognising lots of letters now and the sounds that they make. They are beginning to have a go at making words and breaking words to decipher them. Keep up the good work and see if you can spot any rhymes this week.

In maths this week we have exploring coins, their value and sorting coins. Can you do this at home and try exchanging pennies for coins up to 20p. We have also been adding to make 10.

The story that we have been working on is ‘The Jolly Postman’ and perhaps this week the children could make a Christmas card for a friend or family member and either send it by post or deliver it by hand just like ‘The Jolly Postman’.

Have a fun weekend and super week ahead. Thanks for all your support.

Mrs Carey and Mrs Cuthbertson.
