P7 – Monday 2nd November

Good afternoon P7,

We have got November off to a good start with lots of different activities going on here today.  We were lucky to escape the rain this afternoon and spent time outside weeding the raised beds, going on an observation alphabet hunt and getting creative with loose parts.

For maths, we were discussing ‘real-life’ problems where rounding to estimate an answer can be useful.  Next time you are shopping, try to keep an estimated running total in your head!

In spelling this week, most groups have a focus on prefixes.  We discussed where some of the prefixes in our language originate from… can you remember any examples?

Home Learning Tasks

  1. Here are your spelling words to practise at home.

Please discuss them with someone and try to use them  in conversation.

  1. On Wednesday you will be challenged to use figurative language (similes, alliteration, onomatopoeia…) to write a poem titled Bonfire Night.  To prepare, try to think about what you would see, hear, smell, taste and feel if you were at a fireworks display.  If you need some inspiration, try looking up a video of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay fireworks.

  2. Please log on to our Teams page and find the channel titled ‘Dark Isle’.  You will find some questions on the discussion board, please reply to each of them.  Remember to answer in sentences and give reasons for your answers.

I’m looking forward to another great week with you all!

Mrs J
