IT‘S CHRISTMAAAAAAASSSSSSS!!!!
Well, almost! We have been feeling festive in P5 this week as we have decorated our classroom and we enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch today, yum yum! Here is an update on the rest of our week:
In literacy, we have been enjoying The Butterfly Lion and now have more information about our main characters. We have enjoyed reading aloud in class and working on our fluency and expression and have done well to complete a task board of activities. Our phoneme this week was “ck” and from next week we will do some revision of all of the phonemes we have covered so far. This term we also began to practice using cursive handwriting. The pupils have had such a positive attitude towards this challenge and have certainly made excellent progress!
In maths, the pupils have been excellent at doing revision for addition. All of our pupils are confident using the written method for both and have an awareness of carrying. The challenge was setting out the calculations in our maths jotters, but we take great care of our work in P5! Keep practicing as next week we will be moving on to subtraction.
We also started to explore 2D shapes and enjoyed doing a 2D shape hunt to explore the names and properties of some of the most common. We used Ipads to scan the QR codes and find out the number of edges and vertices of each shape. We then completed a carousel of activities to investigate if the shapes would tile without leaving any gaps and enjoyed getting creative to make our own tiling patterns. Finally we created riddles for our classmates to guess the 2D shapes based on our knowledge and understanding of their properties.
In other areas, we continued to explore and research more about the continent of Africa. On Tuesday, we had the opportunity to choose a country within Africa and find out more about it. We looked into the different languages spoken there, the population, what the flag looked like and other details. We also learned about a scientist called Alexander Fleming and worked with a partner to create our own quiz and answer sheet about him for another pair to complete. On Tuesday and Thursday we had the opportunity to learn some ceilidh dances for our Christmas party which will be on Wednesday 14th December. This was great fun and we had a good giggle when working with P6!
For Disney, we have been working incredibly hard and are making super progress with our show! Our production team has been working hard on the design concept for the scenery, masks and costumes and will be ready to begin making them all in January! Well done to the pupils who have been working hard to learn their lines at home- you are doing brilliantly! The whole cast have learned so many songs and dances already and I’m sure they will blow you away with their talent. Keep practising over Christmas, as we have a special visitor in January!
Thanks again for your ongoing support with all the work we do in class. This has been the last week of written homework- pupils only need to deliver their talks on Monday and that will be it for this term! Have a lovely weekend!
