An East Ayrshire Council School

p3/2 Friday 20th May

It’s been super to see a little more sun this week. The weather is still so unpredictable though!

We were treated to a wonderful performance of Aladdin by Primary 5 and 6 pupils at the community centre on Thursday morning. All of p3/2 thoroughly enjoyed it. The performers were brilliant!

We’ve been working very very hard on place value in Numeracy this week. The children are learning to use the skill of partitioning to help with addition calculations of larger numbers. Sometimes it’s easier to just use a number square or count in in your head but we keep working on the strategies because it gets harder to rely on just a number square as the numbers get bigger.

LITERACY

This week:

Apples have been doing the phoneme ‘aw’ a bit more. They are starting to use it independently when writing their own words.

Bananas have continued with ‘wh’ as it is a tricky sound to hear. Now the challenge is not to add an ‘h’ to words with a ‘w’. A common error is turning ‘with’ into ‘whith’ and ‘went’ into ‘whent’

Pears have been working on words ending with ‘ll’ because they had a ‘gull’ in their reading book.

The children enjoy completing active spelling tasks each morning. This helps them settle and allows time to practise their phoneme words and common words.

The reading books have also been well received this week and all the children have worked hard to complete challenging follow up tasks where they have to search for words and events in their books.

PE

The children are getting very adventurous with the gymnastics equipment in PE. We have worked on balances, rolls, ways to travel and jumps. We have a couple more weeks of this before moving on to athletics type activities in preparation for sports day.

OUTDOOR LEARNING

We love taking our learning outside. We have been working on our common words, place value, throwing skills and making obstacle courses.

This week also sees the start of a new topic for the last bit of term. We will be learning about TRANSPORT. If you have anything interesting your child would like to share then please send it in. We’re looking at air, land and sea travel, developments in transport over time and hopefully we’ll have some time for role play activities related to these.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs Miller
