P7F Week Beginning 17.1.22

This week for maths, we have been working on calculating the perimeter. We found it quite challenging at times and are continuing to practice our addition skills to help us with this. Next week we will be moving onto learning about the area of a shape.

We are coming to the end of our novel, “Carrie’s War.” We have been practicing reading aloud and focusing on reading with expression, using the punctuation to help us, and also using strategies such as using syllables to read unfamiliar words. Next week we hope to finish the novel and find out Carrie’s big secret!

We are also coming near the end of our World War 2 topic. This week we have learned about The Battle of Britain, D-Day and VE Day. We also learned about spies and espionage and spent time today learning about different coding techniques and trying to break codes. We really enjoyed using morse code, anagrams, ciphers and messages with patterns! Next Friday we will have an end of topic assessment to see how much we have learned during this topic.

We have been participating and preparing for the “If I were an engineer” competition and this week we developed our inventions and wrote a letter explaining how they work and why they should be chosen. We are really proud of our work and will be sending the entries off soon… Fingers crossed!
