Thursday 13th January 2022 

Welcome back Primary 7J!

This week we have been settling back in to school life and reminding ourselves of the daily routines we follow.  Lots of names have been going up on the Recognition Board for demonstrating good manners and our class currency has been flowing, with pupils earning tokens for great effort.

A big focus has been on the ‘If you were an engineer, what would you do?’ competition.  Pupils have already shared some creative ideas and next week they will be asked to draw and annotate their final designs.

Negative numbers have been introduced during maths time; we now all know how the number line extends to include numbers less than zero. We have found negative numbers being used in everyday life when dealing with money and bank balances, reading thermometers and when measuring above/below sea level. Next week we will further develop our understanding of how to add and subtract when negative numbers are involved.

This week we met Sir Stephen Hillier over teams, we got to talk to and interview him, we asked questions about his life and how he started his career. It was really exciting to meet a former R.A.F chief.  

We also did an engineering task where we thought about daily life problems and how we could fix them. We got to look at other peoples’ solutions to problems they have fixed.  

For our topic on World War 2, we did a lesson on ‘The Blitz’. This included some art based on the London Blitz, air raid shelters, as well as A.R.P wardens.
