I can’t believe its Friday again! Time really does fly when you are having fun, and we have certainly had lots of fun this week. Our Elf has been busy getting up to mischief.
Monday – Elf covered himself in our stickers.
Tuesday – Elf made a ball pool with our pom poms.
Wednesday – Elf had a snowball fight with our class toys.
Thursday – Elf decorated our Xmas tree with Haribo.
Friday – Elf climbed on a rope up our dolls house leaving a trail of Batman Christmas gold chocolate coins.
He did share all of the Haribo and chocolate coins with us.
Literacy – We have focused on the phonic ‘f’ and made beautiful poinsettia flowers. Our common words were it, for, on and we will continue to focus on these words next week. We use ‘break and blend’ to help us work out new words. We also read a lovely story called ‘The Puppy Who wanted a boy’. We talked about the characters and setting in the story and created fantastic story maps.
Next week our phonic is ‘O’ and our common words are it, for, on. We will read the story ‘Stick Man’ and will create story maps.
Numeracy – We took part in lots of number sense activities focusing on different ways to show a number. We used dominoes, ten frames, dice, fingers, pictures and a variety of goldfish bowl resources. We are so clever when taking part in these activities. Ask your child to talk about it and you will be impressed.
Next week we will continue to explore numbers. We will focus on number sequence, teen numbers and counting in 2’s and 10’s.
We also explored the traditions associated with Christmas and the Nativity story. We read the story ‘Santas Underwear’ which is so funny! We made beautiful snow globes to decorate our classroom.
Next week we will explore Xmas around the world and how different countries and religions celebrate Christmas. The children are keen to make Xmas cards and Santa Puppets.
Your children work so hard in Primary 1 and they continue to impress me every day! They are super excited about Christmas and love to complete our Christmas activities. I am sure they will be even more excited next week and it really is lovely to get caught up in it all.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend,
Hugs from Mrs Cuthbertson xx
