P6W: week beginning 30th November 2020

Hello again,

It’s been another busy  and quick week.  Well done to our Star of the Day, Star Worker and Over and Above recipients.  Keep up the good work!

On Monday we celebrated St. Andrew’s Day. We watched a short animation to find out who St. Andrew was and why he became Scotland’s patron saint.  Then we wrote the story of his life as an acrostic poem and shared our learning with our peers. We also used search facilities to find information on Scottish inventors and inventions during the Victorian era and completed a research map.

In maths we moved on to finding the area and perimeter of composite shapes.  Some of us found it quite tricky but we persevered. Our taught writing task was to create a character’s diary extract.  We could choose to be Queen Victoria or Prince Albert.  We enjoyed reading our work aloud to the class and putting on posh royal accents.

As it is now December, we have started our Christmas activities. We listened to the Christmas story and summarised the key events. Our challenge next week is to make a PowerPoint presentation to tell the story in our own words.

Home Challenge:

  • Log in to Nessy at least twice for 15-20 minutes
  • Play Hit the Button to practise the 4x and 8x tables (Topmarks website)
  • Find what style of handwriting was taught in Victorian schools and practise writing your full name in the same way
  • Spelling focus – soft c words

Green:  cyclone   circumference   cylinder   centimetre   necessary   sincere   difference   instance

Blue:   cinema   century   cylinder   centimetre   decide   recent   balance   entrance

Have a great weekend,

Mrs W
