Daily Activity – Monday 15th June

Happy Monday everyone!
Our story of the week this week is……

Pants! By Giles Andreae and Nick Sharratt

Songtime!

Activity

Now you’ve learned wee bits about your bodies, you can “make yourself”

You will need a large sheet of paper, or several smaller sheets taped together, and some pens or pencils.
Draw around your child and then ask them to describe themselves, For example,  blue eyes, brown hair, happy or sad, anything really, just talk about what makes them unique, at this particular time. You could put shoe size, clothes size, weight and height, favourite foods……anything!  Make sure you write it all onto the sheet and remember to write the date.

This activity promotes health and wellbeing and gives your child a sense of self.
The nice thing is that you can revisit this in months and years to come. Babies, toddlers and preschool children can all take part.

We would love to see photos of your finished products!

You can email them to eaelaine.bracher@glow.sch.uk

As always, have fun, stay safe and we hope that the activities are enjoyable for you all 🌈

Daily Activity – Friday 12th June

Its Friday…..time to bake!!

INGREDIENTS

350g (3 cups) plain flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
2 tsp ground ginger
100g (1/2 cup) butter
175g (1 cup) light muscovado sugar
4 tbsp golden syrup
1 large egg

HOW TO MAKE EASY GINGERBREAD MEN

Pre-heat the oven to 190C / 170C fan and prepare your baking trays

Get your toddler to line 3 baking sheets with greaseproof paper.

Add the ingredients to a bowl

Get your child to measure the flour into a bowl. While they are doing that add the bicarbonate of soda and ginger. Weigh the butter then chop it up into a few pieces before adding it to the flour.

Using your fingertips, rub in the butter until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Get your child to measure the sugar then stir it into the flour mixture. Add the golden syrup.
Crack the egg into a separate bowl then add it to the flour (or if you’re feeling brave do it straight into your mixture).

Make the gingerbread men

Mix everything together until you have a smooth dough.

The recipe makes quite a lot so divide the dough in half then roll out one half on to a lightly floured work surface until its about 5mm thick.

Cut out your ginger bread men using a cutter or use any other shapes you have to hand .Place them on your baking tray.

Gather up any scraps and roll out again. Repeat with the remaining dough.

Bake the gingerbread men

Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes until they become a slightly darker shade. Cool slightly then lift on to a wire rack to cool.

Gingerbread Play Dough Recipe

This playdough smells absolutely amazing!

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 cup water
1 tsp vegetable oil

Spices

allspice
cinnamon
ginger
nutmeg

Mix all dry ingredients, add spices until you have reached your desired scent and color. Mix oil and water together and then add to dry ingredients and stir. Cook the mixture for three to five minutes on low to medium heat, stirring constantly. You will know it is finished when the dough starts to pull away from the sides of the pan and forms a large ball. Take the dough out of pan and knead until it is smooth and soft. When cool, store in an airtight container.

You can roll out the dough and use cutters. Can you make your own Gingerbread Man?

As always, just have fun and stay safe
