Every Friday we have been learning about fire safety. All children in the centre have the opportunity to either toast a marshmallow, have hot chocolate or have an alternative snack. The children have been voting for their favourite over the past two months and their favourite choice is repeated.
The children have been learning that we need three things to start a fire: oxygen, fuel and heat. They have been very good at understanding the safety rules and knowing that only Hazel and Rebecca are in the safety circle starting the fire. Most children are able to explain the rules surrounding the fire and have been observed role playing the fire in the centre.
Every Wednesday morning, our pre school children are now been given the opportunity to go to the woods. Rebecca, Hazel, Dawn and Kathleen take a group of 8 children to the woods for a 4 week block. This gives the children the opportunity to explore the local wildlife, looking after their environment, and given the chance and opportunity to explore their natural environment which enhances all aspects of their development.
This year we have four Communication Champions. We have Rebecca Baird, Irene Sayers and our new champions Lyndsay Grant and Lynsey Ferguson. We will be posting a monthly report of Top Tips, Rhymes of the Month and any other added information. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask any one of us. If you would like to refer your child to speech and language, I have posted up a picture of our poster which has a phone number and information you need. This poster is also up on our communication wall as you come into the Centre.
The rhyme of the month in October is Incy Wincy Spider. The children are learning each rhyme along with makaton signs.
The children in both the Rainbow Room and Butterfly room had very successful Health Week last week. Children enjoyed the opportunity to take part in a variety of sporting activities including football, dancing and race day! The children also took part in making their own healthy snacks including smoothies and fruit kebabs.
The children in the Rainbow Room enjoyed a visit from Jim, the lollipop man who supported the children to understand how to be safe near to roads. The children in the Butterfly room focused on Bike and Scooter safety near to roads.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the planning and contributed to make this such a successful week for the children in the Centre.
