P3/4 Navigating Using a Compass

Today P3/4 applying their learned knowledge of  compass directions and mapping skills to create a map of our classroom and then use a compass to help navigate around the room to create a set of instructions.

In teams pupils first draw a map of the classroom including important features like a compass, obstacles and enter/exit points. Pupils enjoyed personalizing their map and adding in their own detail.

The next step was for pupils to map out a route from a starting point to a finishing point in the class which pupils would then actively follow using a compass and write down a set of instructions along the way.

P3/4 Literal Questions

Today P3/4 were learning how to identify and understand the meaning of a literal question.

Pupils used their own reading books to find evidence in the text to directly answer a set of reading comprehension questions. It also tested their understanding of the key features of a reading such as:

  • How to correctly use a contents page
  • Purpose of the Index and Glossary
  • Locating and identify the purpose of the blurb

As an early finisher pupils could reinforce their learner of their new spelling words using active literacy activities.

P3/4 Health and Wellbeing in the Sun

Today P3/4 decided to take our learning outside into the sunshine to talk about our health and wellbeing.

During our PaThs discussion we focused on the term ‘teasing’ and what if felt like to be teased by others. We read a story about a girl who was being teased by another girl in her class. Throughout this story we identified the actions and reactions from both girls and talked about how each girl would feel using our comfortable and uncomfortable feelings chart.

To finish we listened to each other’s experiences of these feelings and discussed strategies of how we can overcome difficult situations in future.

P3/4 Angles Scavenger Hunt

P3/4 have been increasing their knowledge of different types of angles throughout this week.

We discussed the importance of angles of angles during everyday activities and completed a challenge to find as many different types of angles within a variety of objects outside in the playground.

Some objects containing angles included:

  • signs
  • tables
  • cones
  • the stage
  • fence

P3/4 Pupil Council

This is a little reminder that voting and selection for the representatives of each primary stage will take place this Wednesday (23.3.22).

P3 pupils just have to let their teacher know if they would like to be put forward as a candidate.

P4 pupils must let their teacher know and prepare a short speech which they will present in  front  of their class (P3/4). Pupils will have a short time to work on their speeches tomorrow (Tuesday) in class but I would recommend pupils working on them at home tonight and tomorrow night. Speeches can be as long or as short as pupils like but I recommend around 1-2 mins speaking time.

P3/4 Red Nose Day

P3/4 had a wonderful day celebrating Red Nose Day by making their own red noses and also participating in a team science lego challenge. Their challenge was to build a habit for their chosen animals thinking about what type of climate the animal would live in and what resources they would require to survive.

The pupils very much enjoyed the challenge and presented some amazing ideas and finished products.
