Space: Day and Night
This week P2/3 were learning about how the Sun and the Earth move in space to give us day and night. The children also learned about Tim Peake and made their own 3D alien shape.
Great work P2/3!

Great work P2/3!
Science: Gummy Bears
Firstly the pupils enjoyed learning about solids, liquids, and gasses where they made a human solid, human liquid, and human gas.
In a solid, particles are tightly packed.
In a liquid, particles are less tightly packed and free to move past each other.
In a gas, particles are spread out and move randomly.
Experiment time:
P5/6 created hypotheses of what might happen when we placed a solid (gummy bear) into a liquid (water) and left it overnight.
P2/3 led the learning by showing P5/6 what to do.
We left the cups containing our solid and liquids overnight to investigate today. When we returned the gummy bears has gotten bigger. We learned that this was due to a process called osmosis where water molecules travel from an area of high concentration of water to an area of low concentration of water.
Finally, we discussed how we could use this knowledge to remove the water from the gummy bear. Some hypotheses we have put to the test are:
Why don’t you ask your child about the final outcome?
The Worry Tiger
This week, P2/3 have been reading The Worry Tiger. We completed a visualisation task and made our own worry dolls.
Traditionally, worry dolls originated in Guatemala and were gifted to children who needed a friend to talk to whenever they were nervous or sad. Before bed, they would tell their dolls their worries, place the doll under their pillow, and go to sleep — by the morning, all their worries would fade away!
Expressive Arts: Orchestra
P2/3 have been learning about the different families in an orchestra. This week we were learning about the String Family.
Great work P2/3!
Science Center
P2/3 had an amazing time at the Science Center today. The children loved going to the planetarium and learning lots about the stars and planets (P2/3 were brilliant at answering questions about the phases of the moon!).
We then explored all the different floors of the Science Center, including BodyWorks, Space Zone, Powering the Future and Newton Flight Academy.
What an amazing day had by all! 🙂
Space: Comets and Meteors
Today, P2/3 were learning about Comets and Meteors. We made our own comets and talked about the different parts as well as drawing the Bovedy Meteorite that fell in Ireland in 1969. We also dropped ‘meteors’ into flour to measure the size of the crater.
Amazing work P2/3!
World Book Day
As part of World Book Day the whole school took part in writing a story together. Today, P2/3 were drawing the characters from the story – Gary and Mr Pinch.
Amazing work P2/3!
Literacy Open Afternoon
Thank you to everyone who came to the Literacy Open Afternoon in P2/3. The children loved showing their parents/carers some of the different activities we take part in during class.
Well done P2/3!
World Book Day
Today Rachel McGaw came to visit the school. She read some of her new fairytales to P1/2/3 and one of her published books – Ruan the Little Red Squirrel. The children loved meeting Rachel and had lots of questions to ask her about being an author.
After break, the children took part in World Book Day activities, including Guess Who, a Scavenger Hunt and the Book Swap.
Happy World Book Day!
Book Swap
On Wednesday afternoon, P2/3 sorted out all of the books that had been brought in for the book swap and set them out for the other classes to choose from on World Book Day.
Amazing work P2/3!
