Today we took part in a whole School Teams Call with the author Richard O’Neill. We learned how he plans his stories and publishes his books. He shared lots of the stories that he has written and let us ask lots of questions about becoming an author.
Amazing effort in primary 7 today! Fantastic costumes and most importantly, lots of books and reading!
We had loads of fun leading our houses in World Book Day activities across the school. Well done to Dunlop who won the book treasure hunt and Fowlds who won the WBD Kahoot quiz.
What a fantastic morning we had today at our whole school poetry competition.
We were very proud of our 3 poets who recited Tam O’Shanter with such confidence and expression. They were richt guid!
Mr Borland started our competition off with a fabulous poem that he had written, inspired by our Burns Supper last week. He inspired us to be confident and speak from the heart.
Here is a copy of his fabulous poem for you to read:
Our 3 judges were so impressed with our very mature recitals and found it extremely hard to choose but our winners and runners up on the day were …
1st place :
Runners Up :
While we waited for the judges (Mrs M Ross, Mrs Sinclair and Mr Borland) to make their decision, the whole school had lots of fun singing and dancing together in the hall.
We were delighted to welcome Mr Borland to class this week to hear him recite Tam O’Shanter and The Address to the Haggis. We loved listening to him perform and he then listened to our performances ahead of our Burns Supper on Friday. He was so impressed with us all and give us a couple of hints and tips to improve our performances.
We are looking forward to Mr Borland being one of the judges at our poetry competition next week.
We have used the cut willow in our garden to try our hands at willow weaving. We have been practising this skill over the last two afternoons and are very proud of the willow wreaths that we have created to sell at the Christmas Fayre. Here is a sneak preview of what we will be selling after we add some Christmas touches.
On Thursday we entered 2Primary 7 teams in the East Ayrshire Schools Cross Country Competition. We were very proud of our super ambitious runners! They ran 1400m with determination and speed. Well done to them all! There were some busy washing machines after this muddy event!
We enjoyed reading to our Primary 1 buddies this week. We read their Mobile Library book and we chose a book from the P1 library to read together. We also showed each other our classrooms.
We were delighted to have a visit from Lionel Lion when the author of the book came to read to the Primary 1s.
