What a fantastic morning we had today at our whole school poetry competition.
We were very proud of our 3 poets who recited Tam O’Shanter with such confidence and expression. They were richt guid!
Mr Borland started our competition off with a fabulous poem that he had written, inspired by our Burns Supper last week. He inspired us to be confident and speak from the heart.
Here is a copy of his fabulous poem for you to read:
Our 3 judges were so impressed with our very mature recitals and found it extremely hard to choose but our winners and runners up on the day were …
1st place :
Runners Up :
While we waited for the judges (Mrs M Ross, Mrs Sinclair and Mr Borland) to make their decision, the whole school had lots of fun singing and dancing together in the hall.
Well done to our amazingly talented Primary 7s who hosted a fantastic Burns Supper. They performed with confidence and impressed the audience with their talents.
We have really enjoyed learning about the traditions of a Burns Supper. We put our heads together to write a Toasts to our Lassies and a reply from the to the laddies. We look forward to reading these to our audience at our Burns Supper on Friday 30th January.
We have used the cut willow in our garden to try our hands at willow weaving. We have been practising this skill over the last two afternoons and are very proud of the willow wreaths that we have created to sell at the Christmas Fayre. Here is a sneak preview of what we will be selling after we add some Christmas touches.
Today we started our first STEM Lab using the new school Vex Go kits. We learned how to build with the kit and designed our own machines first. Mrs Ross and Mrs Conetta were very impressed with our creativity and build skills.
Working in groups, we then followed the step by step instructions to build or Base Robots. We then practised using the drive mode to move our robots around our table. After some trial and error using different driving styles it was time for competitions. We built our racing track and raced each others robots through the slalom. Well done to Olivia our racing winner this week!
We are looking forward to STEM Lab 2 next week where we will be learning to code our robots.
We had a fabulous day of learning with Mr Wilson who came to teach us how to be Sports Leaders. We developed skills that we will be able to use throughout our lives. We took turns delivering coaching sessions and working together to plan lessons.
Thank you Mr Wilson for giving up your time to work with us, we had a fantastic day!
