Primary 3 have been exploring different strategies to solve multiplication problems. We have enjoyed using arrays, equal groups, number lines and repeated addition. We are becoming multiplication ninjas!

P3 – Scottish Inventors
Primary 3 have enjoyed learning about many Scottish inventions to start off 2026. The pupils chose which Scottish inventions to find out more about. Here are just some examples of their learning.
We investigated fingerprints. P3 enjoyed identifying the fingerprints of the teachers in school and then looked at their own for unique markings.
We investigated the history of golf. We found out about a local golf course and made our own mini golf courses.
We learned about the person who invented the kaleidoscope and had a go at making our own.
We found out that ice hockey originates from the Scottish game of Shinty.
There are so many more Scottish inventions that we have covered, as you can see in the photo above. Maybe our class has a famous inventor of the future!
P3 – Scottish topic appeal
Primary 3 are learning about Scottish Inventions. One invention the class would like to learn about is the invention of the kaleidoscope. If you have any empty kitchen roll tubes that are due to be recycled, please bring them in for this project. Thank you!
Subtraction method tips
In Primary 3 we use a variety of methods to explore subtraction and it is natural to prefer one method over another. We use number line to count back and also to find the difference by ‘adding up’ from the small number to the bigger. We also use place value ‘Hundreds, Tens and Units’.
We use part-whole models and base 10 to help visualise the numbers. Please find more details below. It includes a video (hopefully it works) and written explanation.

Last Day Plans
On Friday 19th December, Primary 3 have requested to watch ‘Home Alone’ in class. This is a PG film. If you have an objection to the class watching this movie, please get in touch with the school.
Pupils in P3 can bring in a blanket or small soft toy tomorrow but no additional snacks please.
A reminder also that school will finish at 2.30pm.

P3 – Frosty the Snowman
We enjoyed learning about ‘Frosty the Snowman’ this afternoon. P3 have been introduced to what sheet music looks like and learned how the tune moves up and down the stave. We then made our own snowman themed sheet music art and used chalk to decorate the background with snowflakes.
P3 – Literacy
Primary 3 have been loving ‘The Night I Met Father Christmas’ by Ben Miller. The book has allowed us to have some very good discussions about a range of important themes as we learn how Father Christmas became Father Christmas. We looked closely at the beginning of chapter 10 and picked out the important descriptive words that help us visualise the scene. Afterwards, we drew our own visualisations of the scene and presented them to the rest of the class. It’s amazing how we can all picture things a bit differently!
Christmas Countdown
Primary 3 were over the moon to find Elfie hiding in the cupboard along with some Christmas decorations. We think Elfie was trying to tell us to get decorating for Santa! One kind pupil decided to leave her Elphaba ‘Elphie’ in school over the weekend to keep Elfie company. We wonder what the Elfie and Elphie will get up to.
P3 – Digital Literacy
Primary 3 have been learning how to use multiple features of Word documents, including how to highlight text and change fonts, text sizes and colours. We are becoming more confident with finding the different keys on the keyboard. We put all of these skills to good use and practised our spelling words.
