Muirkirk Primary School is continuing with their Reading Schools journey this session. This program aims to make reading for pleasure a focus in the school and promotes a love of reading. You can find out more about the program here:
We achieved our Core Award in June 2026 and we are now aiming to achieve our Silver Award. We have a pupil leadership group that meets once every three weeks to assist with evaluating our plans and ensuring we are progressing towards our actions plan.
Already in the school we have scheduled DEER time (Drop Everything and Read) for 15 minutes each day and reading becomes a regular feature during transition times. Pupils are invited to bring their own reading materials into school and we have partnered with East Ayrshire library bus to provide all children with access to a library service.
