Friday 4th December Primary 2 Literacy

Good morning everyone!

For literacy on a Friday normally we would complete a spelling test for our tricky words and phoneme. At home ask your grown up to say each word and use it in a sentence so you can then write it down or spell it out loud.

If you do it on paper your grown-up could mark your work using brilliant blue and green for growth. Remember green for growth is fantastic as these are the words you need to work on.

On a Friday we would also take time to watch Geraldine the Giraffe and Alphablocks.

Today you could also divide a piece of paper into four and draw four of your phoneme words, remember to write the words underneath.

Also you could write some silly sentences, try to use as many of your words as possible.

Primary 2 Thursday 3rd December numeracy

Numeracy Thursday 3rd December

Good morning everyone.

For numeracy today, I am setting you a one-minute challenge.

First, ask your grown-up to start the timer, when you think a minute is up as them to stop. Were you close? Ask those who live in your house to try it. Who was the closest?

Next I would like you to estimate how many times you can do each item in the table in one minute. Write down your estimate and then ask a grown-up to time you. Did you manage more or less? Did it feel like a minute? I have left the last box empty, you can think of your own challenge to complete in one minute.

Now you could ask your grown-up to join in? How did they get on?

Activity Estimate Actual
Write your name

Write the alphabet

Thursday 3rd December Primary 2 P.E

Good Morning!

On a Thursday we normally have P.E. Our focus has been on small ball skills (throwing/catching). The children have also been using a small bat and ball to improve their hand-eye coordination. If you have a ball and bat at home you could show your grown-up what we have been working on.  Remember to warm up first, perhaps you could be the teacher and lead the warm-up for your family.

We have also explored large ball skills. At home you could show off some of the throws you have been learning. Remember only throw the ball if your partner is ready ( the children can discuss how to show someone you are ready to catch the ball).

If the weather isn’t great why not try some cosmic yoga for kids on Youtube?

Have fun

Primary 2 Thursday 3rd December Literacy

Wednesday 3rd December

Literacy

Good morning everyone!

Remember to keep looking over your tricky words and phoneme.

On a Thursday, we normally write in our taught writing jotter. We have been focusing on using time words in our writing.

  • o’clock
  • half past
  • today/yesterday/tomorrow
  • morning/afternoon/evening

For today I would like you imagine you have gone into a time-travelling machine and ended up in the past – or perhaps, future.

Remember to talk about

  • What you see?
  • What does the place look like?
  • Whom do you meet?
  • What do they look like?
  • What do they eat and drink?

Remember to read your story, does it make sense? What about your handwriting? Do you have finger spaces? Have you made sure your letters are the correct size?

I can’t wait to read all your stories.

Primary 2 Wednesday 2nd December Teeth and Healthy Eating

Our topic this term has been about teeth and healthy eating. The children have been exploring the sugar content of  a variety of foods. At home choose some items from your food cupboard/fridge and put the items in order from least amount to largest amount of sugar. Do this without checking the labels and then look and see if you were correct.

Were you surprised by any of the items.

Below is an activity to test your knowledge of teeth and healthy eating.

Primary 2 Wednesday 2nd December Literacy

Wednesday 2nd December

Literacy

Remember to revise your tricky words and phoneme every day.

In class we have been exploring alliteration. This is when a sound is repeated. For example

She sells sea shells on the sea shore.

At home choose at least five objects and use alliteration to describe them. For example, a shoe, shiny shoe.

Then try some tongue twisters. Who can say them the best? Can you and your family come up with your own tongue twisters?

  • I scream, you scream, we all scream, for ice cream!
  • Peter Piper. Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.

Numeracy

Good morning.

Our numeracy focus this week is time. You could make your very own clock. Make sure the numbers are in the correct place. Show your grown up o’clock, half past and any other times you already know. Remember to include digital times as well.

If yesterday, you completed the time activity Fun in the park and the one-hour before and after clocks then today you can complete the activity below, this involves writing the time one hour before and after however today can you do it with half past times?

If you are in the smaller maths group then you can complete the activity ‘Tell the time: Writing the time.

Remember you can also use the My Maths website. (you have the login information at home)

Tuesday 1st December Literacy Primary 2

Literacy

Remember that you should be revising your phoneme and tricky words every day. Why not go outside and throw a ball to someone in your family, each time you catch the ball say a letter of your word. You could make your words from pasta or anything else you have at home.

Tuesday is always our comprehension day. The children use their reading book and answer a variety of questions about their book. The children are well versed in our find it, prove it and talk about it approach. Our focus recently has been to focus on giving specific full answers. For example

How many people looked after the rainbow machine?

You should write

Seven people looked after the rainbow machine.

Tuesday 1st Of December Primary 2 Numeracy

Good morning everyone.

Today we begin with some numeracy.

We have been using the Rekenreks for our number talks. If you follow the link you will find an interactive rekenrek that you can use. Ask your grown up to give you a number between 1-20, how many different ways can you show your grown up the number on your rekenrek? Remember to make use of the white and red colours to make a fast five or ten.

Grown-ups you might ask your child to show you 5 in one move or show you 12 in 3 moves and so on.

https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/rekenrek/index.html

The children have been working on o’clock and half past. You could try the link below which takes you to the Topmarks website where you can play clock splat.

https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/math/time/clock-splat-game/

If you are in the smaller maths group you can complete the task that asks you to revise writing the seasons of the year. You can also complete the activity that asks you to put the hands on the clocks to show o’clock.

If you completed the calendar task yesterday then today you can try the task that asks you to show one hour before and one hour after in digital time. If you can do this then you could move onto the Fun at the Park task. This involves reading a time question and working out the answer.
