Earlier this school year, primary 6 decided they wanted to find funding to get a cooking kit which could be used within the school and to link with the community. After finding the funding themselves and completing the application form, we were lucky enough to receive money from The National Lottery Community Fund. The goal being to start with posting videos to the blog demonstrating how to cook different recipes and eventually (post covid!) have members of the community in to work with the children preparing meals. Today we had our first trial session to get to grips with all the new equipment. The first half of the class made Cajun pasta today and the second half of the class will make it tomorrow! The children are very proud of their end result and cannot wait to share more recipes. Below you will find pictures of today’s cooking session and a recipe for today’s dish of choice!
Cajun Pasta
325g diced chicken breast
100ml double cream
1 pepper
1 onion
1tbl spoon Cajun seasoning
400g chopped tomatoes
500ml of chicken stock (500ml boiling water mixed with 2 chicken stock cubes)
2 cups of pasta
1. Wash and dice one pepper and one onion.
2. Mix together in a bowl cajun seasoning and diced chicken.
3. Cook chicken until white throughout and then add in chopped pepper and onion.
4. After a minute or so, add in chopped tomatoes, chicken stock and pasta.
5. Leave on the boil for a few minutes and add the double cream.
Dish is complete when pasta is cooked through and has no white grains still showing in the middle.
