Using push and pull forces in games at gym time. We had a competition to see who could throw a beanbag the furthest. Then we played skittles. Then we tried Tug of War ……

 

We are enjoying our class novel …. The Utterly Otterleys. It’s all about looking for a perfect place to live.

We were looking for punctuation in the text.

During our open afternoon we showed our parents some of the activities we do to help us get better at maths.

This week we looked at internet safety and how to keep safe on social media platforms.  At I.C.T. we created our own avatars so that we could use that to make our profiles safer. We did a survey to see which apps are most popular in our class.

We recited our poems to Mrs Millar. Our poem is called “The Auld Broon Troot” and is by Sandy Thomas Ross.

We made a fraction wall which showed us that the more pieces a strip is cut into, the smaller these pieces get.  We used our knowledge of multiples of the times tables to create sets of equivalent fractions.

We had a fabulous time at Burns Cottage and learned so much about what life was like over 200 years ago.

We have been learning about food. We are thinking about why we need food and what is in our food that helps our bodies to grow and stay healthy.

P5 designed a piece of artwork based on Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s iconic rose.  We also learned some facts about him through reading an information text about him.

Also P5 have been doing fractions in maths.  So far we have been identifying fractions and finding fractions of amounts.

We have been doing our Scottish poem ‘The Auld Broon Troot’ by Sandy Thomas Ross.  We have got to verse 4 so only have 1 more verse to learn.

We have also researched about the Australian bushfires.  We wrote a newspaper report and in this we had to share the facts we found out about the bushfires.

We have started learning about electricity with Miss Weir.

This week we have been doing our mental maths assessments for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing and our end of term assessment.

We enjoyed creating our Christmas jumper designs for the Rights Respecting Schools jumper competition. Our winner was Kodie McMillian.

We  also finished our novel which was called “This Morning I met a Whale”. another novel by Michael Morpurgo. Then afterwards  we watched the movie “Free Willy” and compared it to aspects of our novel.

We’ve also been busy doing our random act of kindness advent calendar where you do random acts of kindness every day. Todays random act of kindness was to tell somebody a joke to make them laugh.

This week we have been doing listening activities in maths.  One was based on plotting co-rdinates onto a grid, the second was based on understanding the language of multiples, factors and square numbers with the third focussing on mental addition and subtraction.

This week we’ve also taught P6 & P7 the Scottish dances ‘The Waratah Weaver’ and ‘A Reel for Jeannie’.

We have been discussing the traditions we have in this country in the lead up to and during Christmas.  We then went down to ICT and researched the Christmas traditions of other countries.  Using this research, we then created a fact file that we could use to teach other classes about what we have found out.

This week we have made 3D snowflakes out of paper practising our skills of measuring different lengths.  They look amazing when they are hanging up in the classroom!

        

We have a new novel called “This morning I Met a Whale” and we made a character profile for Michael, the main character in the text.

This week we also taught P6 & P7 “The Flying Scotsman” and “The Red Nose Jig” which were 2 of the dances we performed at The Day of Dance.

To help us learn the vocabulary for animals in French, we used a game call Basketball where we stand in a circle and get to throw the ball to each other.

This week we have been making character profiles of Bertie who is a character from our class novel called The Butterfly Lion.  We also made posters to advertise the circus the white lion cub from our class novel went to.

In maths we completed multiplication and division cross numbers using our the mental strategy of partitioning to help us.

In our topic we researched what effects smoking can have on different body parts.

To help us with our spelling, we were putting our words into elkonin boxes.  To do this, we had to split each word up into the sounds it has and had to think about what letters make those sounds.

On Wednesday it was World Children’s Day.  To celebrate this, we thought about all the rights children have and what we are doing in school to promote these.  We then chose an article and designed a flag to show how Dalrymple Primary are flying high and promoting children’s rights.

This week we designed a banner for day of dance and we had a vote and most people picked Poppy’s. So groups from the class went out to help Poppy  make a large banner for us to take with us.

Yesterday we did some research on cigarettes then we made 3D cigarettes and got our photos taken with them.

Today we practised the Waratah  Weaver and The Flying Scotsman

This week we have been learning some more of our Scottish dances for the Day of Dance. We learned the Virginia Reel and A Reel for Jeannie.

We enjoyed the Open Afternoon this week and getting to play our games that we created with whoever came in.

For our Rights Respecting Schools activity for this month we created posters or leaflets on how to stay well.  We thought about physical, emotional and mental health and advice we could give people.

On Thursday afternoon, we painted sunset pictures and we merged the red, orange and yellow paint to make it look realistic.  In the foreground, we painted a scene which included an African animal, and this idea came from our class novel “The Butterfly Lion”.

Primary 7 pupils are great at helping us learn their new Wake Up Shake Up routine.

This week we have been looking at 2D shapes and creating posters about their properties. We have also been using mental strategies to multiply two digit numbers.

We have began practising for our remembrance assembly in a few weeks time and have made stain-glass poppies to display in our windows.

We are enjoying ‘Feedback Friday’ each week where we evaluate our targets and select a piece of work we are really proud of. We enjoy working together to play board games and celebrating our success!

This week we have changed our classroom and we now have a class library, a peace corner, sloping boards and we now have three groups.  We have cleared out our trays and created box files for our things.

We have now got a new class novel called “The Butterfly Lion” which we are all very excited about.  We read the first chapter yesterday and can’t wait to find out what happens in the story.

In PE, we have started doing Scottish Country Dancing because we are going to the Day of Dance in Kilmarnock in a few weeks.  We have done the Gay Gordons, the Canadian Barn Dance and the Britannia Two Step so far.

We have spent a lot of time creating our maths games for the Open Afternoon next Wednesday.

Last term we learned about our senses. Today we talked about how some people who have lost their sight or hearing can do ordinary everyday things.

We used Braille to read a book and medicine instructions. We tried saying the alphabet with sign language.

We have drawn different types of transport to try and make them more eco friendly.  Also during maths we have been decoding emojis to help us with our mental skills of adding and subtracting. In PE we have been playing netball.

In PE primary 6 have been doing fitness, they have enter the Enterprize, their trying to invest £5 and make it grow.

Primary 1 have been working on using letters and sounds.  they have also been doing arts and crafts, jigsaws ,planting plants and doing fascinating exper ements on them.

As part of Maths Week Scotland, everyday this week we have been doing a maths question for the Daily Rigour team.

For maths we have been doing time durations.  The strategy that we used was counting on.

Yesterday we did designs of what we wanted our classroom to look like. On Wednesday morning Miss Hunter went and visited Littlemill to see what their classrooms looked like so that we could do something similar to it.

The topic that we are looking at just now is Transport and how it affects the environment.

P2 are using our new Active Literacy resources to improve their literacy skills.

 

P2 have been carrying out lots of science experiments to help them find out about their senses.

P7 have been looking at Health and Wellbeing and in HWB we are doing good and bad relationships. We were also doing Estimating and Rounding to help us in real life situations. In PE we were doing Hit Circuits and Basketball with Mr Stokes. We have also being looking at Debating skills.

P5 have been doing onomatopoeia art and word searches. They have also been looking at relationships, growth mindset work and the reward board.  Abstract Art is another area they have been looking at.

P2 made apple turnovers with the apples from our school orchard. Then they iced them. Yum.
