S3 NAB Non-fiction Newspapers

On the 25th of January S3 took the non-fiction Access 3 NAB about Newspapers and mostly did very well with several students getting full marks.

If you were absent that day, make sure you are ready to do this when you come back to school.

S4 Film Case Study Homework Dec 2011-Jan 2012

AnalysisFiction Film – Case Study

1          Open the Media Studies book at page 2.

2          Read and take notes about the following:

  • Genre – p2
  • Representation key term – p6
  • Stock character / Stereotype key term – p7
  • Narrative – green box p 9
  • Audience involvement – p11
  • Camera terms and definitions p12
  • Film promotion and marketing pp16-17
  • Trailers – p 8
  • Film classifications – p22

3          Choose a film you have at home which you will be able to bring in to school. You will be watching this on your own next period. You can only watch a film which you are legally old enough to watch.

4          As you watch, take notes about your film in the following categories:

  • Genre
  • Representation key term
  • Stock character / Stereotype key term
  • Narrative – green box
  • Audience involvement
  • Camera terms and definitions
  • Film promotion and marketing
  • Trailer(s)
  • Film classification

You will find that the “extra features” section of the DVD will help you with a lot of the “how the film was made” bits.

In the New Year, you will have to make a presentation to the whole class about the film you studied as your “Case Study”. You can use a Power Point, film clips, posters, film trailers etc to help your make your points.
