Spelling Strategies for Tricky Words
During Active Literacy, we have been learning various strategies we can use to spell tricky words. Here, these learners have used the ‘mnemonic’ strategy and ‘word within word’ strategy.
Talking and Listening
The pupils of P5 found this talking and listening task trickier than they thought. They had to listen very carefully to one another in order to correctly draw an object they could not see, using position and direction language only.
Getting to Know You
The pupils used a web to attach questions for Miss McLeod to answer during a ‘Getting to Know You’ activity.
Lego Creation
This talented pair created a replica aeroplane from Lego during playtime.
Our Trip to Dumfries House!
We all had a fabulous time at our visit to Valentin Farm, Dumfries House yesterday and are enjoying retelling our trip in our writing jotters for you to read.
We met the Tamworth pigs:
We fed the different types of poultry including Scots Greys, Scots Dumpy, Shetland geese and ducks and the Pied White turkeys.
We enjoyed meeting the rare breed cattle including Vaynol and Shorthorns and the Castlemilk Moorit sheep.
We were all able to demonstrate our milking skills.
We learned the skill of stock judging.
We used our senses to describe the smell of silage.
Followed by sharing our knowledge about seasonal and year round activities on the farm.
Finishing up,with a well earned lunch in the barn!
Dumfries House Farm Visit
Wow! What a fantastic day was had by all at our visit to Dumfries House, Valentin Farm today.
P5 experienced meeting the herd and a ‘Cream of the Crop’ workshop where we consolidated our learning about Scottish Farming and Harvest.
More pictures and details of our day are to follow, but here is a taster of some of the animals we met. Although, there was one question on everyone’s mind, did we see Wilbur?
