Weekly Round up 21.1.22

Mrs Schendel has had a fantastic week with P4 and we have been very busy!

In numeracy we have been working on quick recall of the 3, 6 and 9 times tables facts.  We have been using the grid method to multiply two digit numbers by 3, with some of us even challenging ourselves to multiplying 3 digits.

In literacy, as part of our Scotland topic, we have been looking at setting and characters using a clip from the film Brave.  We wrote character profiles for Merida using lots of super adjectives.

We have also had lots of fun learning to play the glockenspiels! We have learned about notes on a stave and the number of beats in a bar and in one week we have learned to play Twinkle Twinkl Little Star.  Have a listen to our great efforts below.

✏️📚

This week we have been continuing our learning about multiplication. We have been working on the ‘Grid Method’ to solve 2 digit by 1 digit calculations. Ask us about the method!

We have also been finishing creating our fabulous books & we cant wait to show them off when they are complete!

In spelling, we consolidated our knowledge of the all of ways to make the ‘oo’  sound such as ue, u-e, ew and u ✏️📚

We also got to take part in some super art activities inspired by Scottish Artist ‘Steven Brown’,  play some strategy games and enjoyed the fresh air on a walk to the park. 🌳

Have a look at some snaps from our week. 💓📷

Christmas fun

P4 have been getting into the Christmas spirit!

Check out some of the festive fun that has been happening in our classroom  😊

Today, P4 enjoyed a Christmas fun day & party.

It was a much quieter day than we are used to and we really missed the rest of our friends but we still had an AWESOME day with lots of festive fun.

We started off our day making ‘Bake off Showstopper’ gingerbread houses. They looked (almost!) too good to eat.  🏠 💓

We then turned out classroom into a dark theatre to enjoy some, popcorn and a recording of this years Palace Theatre pantomime ‘Aladdin’ on the big board. 🍿

After lunch, we ended our day with lots of games and dancing at our Christmas party. Check out some snaps of the day 🎄

big talk week 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇬🇷 🇰🇪 🇨🇳 🇿🇦 🇧🇧 🇦🇺

Primary 4 have been all around the world this week as we heard each other’s ‘Big Talks’.

P4 confidently delivered their talks and excited their audience with information about lots of different countries – from  Scotland and England, all the way to Italy, Cyprus, Kenya, Japan, China, South Africa, Barbados and Australia! 🌍

Some children will be presenting their talks next week due to absence and we can’t wait to hear them! 🗺

Be bright, be seen

Today Primary 4 organised a ‘Be Bright, Be Seen’ day to encourage everyone to make sure they can be seen by road users during the dark nights and mornings.

In the past few weeks, we have been working on narrative writing and have been focussing on the beginning and middle part of our stories. Some of us have written some very exciting stories and we can wait to continue them next week.

Here are a few snaps from this week 📷

Homework

All children have been sent home with a new spelling grid today containing 12 new words for them to practise reading and spelling. These are words that your child needs to work on and each child has different words personal to them.

Children have also been given their next ‘National Numeracy’ homework. Lots of you have been leaving fab comments on the challenges and the children seem to be really enjoying them!

The next challenge will be due to be returned on 29.11.21.

Reminder, your child’s ‘Big Talk’ project will also be due on this date (details on previous post below).

Thanks again for your continued support,

Miss McLean

Happy Friday!

What a super day in Primary 4.

We started off our day with lots of quality work as we continued working on our novel study ‘The Twits’. We are all enjoying the book very much and are becoming so independent with our comprehension strategies.

We then had some fun Children In Need themed maths activities, before spending the afternoon learning how to draw Pudsey, listening to a Children In Need story and getting arty as we made our own bunting.

Check our some of our pics from today!

Primary 4 Big Talk

P4 Talking Homework

Title:  Countries

You have been given a project to prepare and present a short 5 minute talk about a country of your choice. The presentation should be as detailed as possible and could include information about the climate, capital city, popular food, population, flag, famous buildings/landmarks any other interesting details. You can use the internet or books to find out facts about your chosen country. You could also use other ideas to enhance your talk e.g. PowerPoint (saved pen-drive), drawings, diagrams or items from home.

You should practise your talk at home as often as possible and use a timer to help. You may want to use notes or prompt cards to help you stay on track.

Talks should be ready to be present the week beginning Monday 29th November.

I can’t wait to hear your talks!
