Health Week

What a wonderful (and busy!) ‘Health Week’ we have had.

We started our week with a budgeting task – where we planned and shopped online for a healthy family meal. We had to include all food groups and stick to a budget of £10. This was trickier than we thought!

We also got a chance to take part in some boxing pad sessions with Miss Brown, tasted some healthy fruits in the class, practised for our sports championship race,  practised mindfulness and took part in  RSHP lessons about babies and their needs. It looks like we have some fabulous babysitters in P4!

If all of that wasn’t enough… we also had our school trip to Kelburn Castle and it was absolutely brilliant.

Have a look at some of pictures below!

Big Talk Week

P4 have thoroughly enjoyed presenting their talks this week. It was lovely to hear about each other’s hopes for the future. It looks like we have some very exciting careers ahead of us.  From YouTubers, dancers, gamers and teachers to writers, zookeepers, animal rescue workers, pop stars and tattoo artists – P4 has it all!

Check out our pictures from the presentations. Thanks again for all the support at home with this task.

Jubilee fun 👑

It has been a short but fun filled week as we celebrated the Platinum Jubilee.

From collaborating with P6/7 to create and budget a 3 course royal banquet, designing our crowns, castle building, artwork to our wonderful Jubilee lunch.

Take a look at some pictures from our VERY busy week!

World of work 🌍💡🎥

On Wednesday we had a ‘World of Work’ day.

We took the opportunity to team up with Primary 6/7 for some collaborative learning and had a fantastic time discussing different career and job options.

We then worked together to create storyboards for an iMovie. The plot was based around the main character’s job and we had lots of thoughtful discussion about the skills involved.

This week we also started to get some practise in for the sports championship – which will be taking place after the holidays.

This week also saw the completion of Round 3 of our chess championship. We are so proud of the sportsmanship and the skills that have been developed. There is lots of excitement as we head into the semi finals! 😊

Have a great weekend!

20.5.22

This week we organised the themes for ‘Walk to School Week’ as part of our role as the JRSO.

We had ‘Mixed up Monday’, ‘Team up Tuesday‘, ‘Wild Wednesday‘, ‘Think about it Thursday‘ and ‘Freestyle Friday‘.

We thought it was a great success and want to think the rest of the school for taking part!

This week we continued working on our ‘Persuasive writing’ by creating ‘adoption adverts’ for the animals on the SSPCA website.

We produced some really quality pieces of work that included our opinion, points to back it up and persuasive language. We also tried to use paragraphs to organise our writing. Take a look at our pieces so far.

Big Talk

Twice a year, the children take part in our whole school ‘Big Talk Homework Challenge’.  This is where your child gets the opportunity to prepare and present a talk to the class.

This term we will be having a World of Work day so the title of the talk will be ‘When I am older, I would like to be…’.

At home, your child should prepare and practise their talk.

Some ideas to include in their talk might be:

  • What job would you like to do when they are older and why?
  • What skills or equipment might you need for the job/ what skills would this job help to develop?
  • What skills do you have that would make you a good fit for this career?
  • More information about your chosen job & the role you would like to take on.
  • You could also use other ideas to enhance your talk e.g. PowerPoint (saved on GLOW or pen-drive), drawings, diagrams or items from home.

The talk should be ready to be presented the week bg Monday 6th June.

We look forward to hearing about what they would like to be!

Persuasive writing 🐶🐱🐰🐍

This term we will be focusing on and developing our persuasive writing. This means to convince others of a view point.

This week, we decided to give our writing a real life focus and began to research all about the SSPCA. We learned lots about the amazing work they do and have decided to develop our writing skills by writing ‘adoption adverts’ for some of the animals that need rehomed.

We used the laptops to visit the SSPCA website and picked an animal to write an advert for. There were lots of VERY cute animals and it was difficult for lots of us to choose just one!

When we had chosen a pet, we then began to do some research which will help us with our persuasive writing.

We can’t wait to get started!

Newsround

In P4 we absolutely LOVE watching our daily episode of Newsround. It is an excellent way to learn about and make sense of the world around us in an age appropriate way (and there are always lots of cute animals, too!).

This week in the news we learned about the importance of parks and how they boost the health and wellbeing of children. We learned about how some children don’t have a local park and felt very lucky for our park and all the greenspace we have in Catrine.

The news segment also got our creative juices flowing and we got the chance to design our own dream play parks. Check out the work in progress below.

It sounds like we all had a lovely Easter break.

We have been getting back into the swing of things this week, continuing our learning about fractions in maths, finishing our novel study and finding out about ‘Earth Day’.

We have also been trying to make the most of the nice weather by getting outside and learning how to play rounders. We all absolutely loved it and can’t wait to play again!

Check out some snaps from our first week back 😊📷

An Egg-cellent Week

On Monday some of our very confident and brave Junior Road Safety Officers took to the stage in front of the whole school at assembly. We reminded everyone of the ‘School Street’ rules and presented our PowerPoint.

We decided to start the Easter fun a little early this year. We learned lots about Easter traditions and discovered that some of us hadn’t had the chance to roll our eggs down a hill before. So on Thursday, that is egg-xcatly what we did!

We carefully painted our eggs in class and then took them to the nursery hill to roll them. What a lot of fun!

Here is a video of our eggs rolling down the hill!

This week we were also getting our entries ready for the whole school  ‘Design an Egg’ competition. Check out our designs.

On Friday. we enjoyed lots of activities arranged by P7.

After all that fun, it was time to come inside and relax and sample some hot cross buns.

We were almost ready to head home when Miss McLean played an April Fool’s joke on us. She told us that the grass cutters couldn’t make it and WE would have to cut the grass ourselves! We all believed her and got to work straight away. Miss McLean found it very funny. We were all relieved when we found out it was just a joke!

HAPPY EASTER!
