Primary 4 had a brilliant time this week. We participated in making a film all about our School Street & all of the benefits it brings for staff, pupils, parents and the environment.
We really enjoyed the experience and it turns out we have a few budding stars in our class. (no autographs please 😉)
P4 have been doing our bit for the planet this week by making our own reusable bags out of old t-shirts.
We have been learning lots about plastic pollution and protecting our planet and the animals that live here. We figured out that as a class we could save over 1200 bags ending up in our oceans in a year by using our eco friendly bags! 🌍
Check out the progress of our bags so far! 🐋💕🌍✌️
(We will update this post with more pictures as the rest of our bags are finished)
You can use this strategy to help you with your addition calculations. You might want to use your Maths Scrapbook that was sent home last week to record your working.
Core
62 + 31 =
53 + 26 =
Challenge
420 + 61 =
532 + 17 =
Remember to keep practising your ‘Spelling Grid’ at home using our strategies below. We will change the words when you can read and spell the words on your grid confidently.
NumberTalks is all about finding a strategy that works for you. We know in Primary 4 that not everyone will prefer to use the same strategy and that’s why trying out lots of different methods is so important!
Here are some addition calculations for you to try at home. You can try out the ‘Adding Up In Chunks’ strategy to complete the calculation. Some of the children might prefer double check their answers using the partitioning strategy shown last week (it is proving to be a preferred strategy with lots of primary 4) & that is ok!
It has been yet another busy week in Primary 4 learning new tennis skills, creating line drawings, researching for our fact files, learning new Number Talks strategies and taking part in team building challenges to name a few things!
This week we will let our smiling faces do the talking. 😁
Have a look at just some of the snaps taken this week!
Your P4 has been sent home with their own ‘Spelling Grid’ today.
The grid contains 12 words that they have found tricky to spell since returning to school. Your Primary 4 has also been given a lined jotter that they may use to practise these words.
There is no expectation that your child learns all 12 words this week, we will also be working on spelling the words in class and they will be updated when your child is confident spelling them. However, encouragement and help to learn them at home would be much appreciated! ☺️
This week we have been using the ‘word shape’ to practise our words. Ask your P4 to show you how this is done.
I have added a picture of our spelling strategies below so you can try some at home.
Number Talks
P4 have been making excellent progress with our number talks. Ask your child to complete the following calculations using one of our strategies. (Partitioning, compensation, adding up in chunks)
Check out the video of Hannah demonstrating the partitioning strategy.
