Friday round up!

Primary 4 have been busy continuing  our new topic ‘Natural Disasters’. We started with the question ‘Could you dig a hole through the Earth?’ and began to learn about the 4 layers of our planet. We then learned about earthquakes, what causes them and researched  how countries can protect themselves with really clever things like ‘Earthquake Proof’ buildings.

We then got creative and used a picture of a volcano erupting as a stimulus for some beautiful artwork using tapping, sprinkling and blowing techniques. It was a messy job but totally worth it!  We will be learning lots more about volcanoes next week.

On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to have the first of our rugby sessions. It was chilly but we still had lots of fun!

Friday was another fab day as we completed a series of challenges set by P7 including an outdoor challenge, scavenger hunt, drawing and a chair building construction challenge.

This week was also the start of our ‘Catrine Compliments’. Check out this weeks amazing VIPs (and all the wonderful things we all have to say about them!) below.

Thursday round-up

This week is ‘Children’s Mental Health Week’  and primary 4 used the Disney film ‘Encanto’ to discuss our mental health, what it means & how we can look after it.

Tuesday was also ‘Safer internet day’ and we learned lots about staying safe online.

This week we also learned about about Chinese New Year, which took place last week and had the chance to create some artwork of our names, using Chinese characters.

We have also been loving reading the new books in our class library during ‘Everyone Reading in Class’ time after lunch, which were kindly brought in by Mrs Goudie.

Below I have added some pictures of some of the displays outside of our classroom, including some excellent drawings of Merida from Brave and some awesome Steven Brown inspired artwork. Can you spot your P4’s masterpiece?

Have a lovely holiday weekend everyone!

Homework update

All children have been sent home with their updated spelling grid today – containing new words for them to practise reading and spelling. These are words that your child needs to work on and each child has different words personal to them. Grids are updated when your child is confident with the words on their card.

Children have also been given their next ‘National Numeracy’ homework. Lots of you have been leaving fab comments on the challenges and the children seem to be really enjoying them!

The next challenge will be due to be returned on 16.1.22

Remember, children also have access to ReadingWise and SumDog and we encourage the use of these programmes at home.

Chess champs!

This week Primary 4 have started to learn how to play Chess!

So far we have mastered The Rook, The Bishop & The Queen. While playing chess we are developing our logic, decision making and critical thinking as well as improving our memory,  concentration and talking and listening skills! Most importantly though, we have just been having so much fun and we can’t wait to learn some more about the game!

Lots of the P4’s have been chatting about playing chess and teaching the adults at home and it has been lovely to hear.  😊

This week we have also managed to squeeze in some division, multiplication, spelling, a new sound, a new novel study, a letter to Boris Johnston, reading, fitness during P.E, a walk in the community, music & some free time at the Creation Station where some our creative class decided to make their own laptops, Pom poms and even write a song! Phew!

Have a look at some of the snaps taken this week.
