Weekly Round-Up

A huge well done to all of the Primary 2’s for all the hard work and effort they put into their class talks this week. They all did an absolutely amazing job talking about their favourite animal and I really enjoyed listening to their talks.

This week we also celebrated St Andrew’s Day and learned about the story of our patron saint.

We have been learning to subtract in maths and have started reading our new class novel ‘Stick Man’. We also had great fun decorating the classroom for Christmas!

Here are our ‘Star of the Day’ awards for this week, well done everyone!

Primary 2 are going to be narrating our nativity video and those that want a speaking part have now been sent home with their words. Please practise these lines at home. All children will take part in our performance and we can’t wait to share it with you!

Have a great weekend.

Weekly Round-Up

It’s the end of yet another busy week in Primary 2!

The boys and girls have been working really hard on their number bonds in numeracy. In literacy we have been practising our sounds and creating some super pieces of writing.

We spent some time outside practising our ball skills this week and have also been learning about the weather. We have talked about the different seasons of the year and read the story ‘Little Raindrop’ to learn about the water cycle.  This morning we went outside and drew around the puddles and when we went back outside this afternoon, most of them had disappeared! We learned that this is called evaporation.

Here are our ‘Star of the Day’ awards for this week, great effort everyone!

I am looking forward to hearing all of the children’s talks next week. Please check the previous post for details of when your child will present their talk.

Please ensure all book bags are returned on Monday.

Have a great weekend.

Numeracy Homework – Measures

Pupils have been given a numeracy homework task to complete this week which has been added to the numeracy scrapbook in their book bag. This activity is all about using and comparing measures.

Some helpful hints:  Talk about shortest, tallest, lightest and heaviest when measuring objects.

Children in Need

Primary 2 finished off another busy week with a fun filled day of Children in Need activities. We started the day with a live Work It Out session with Joe Wicks, which was a great way to wake up our bodies and brains. We learned all about Children in Need and then took part in lots of fun activities. It was a great morning!

We finished off the day with a walk around the village to get some fresh air. We noticed that a lot of the leaves have now fallen off of the trees and we even spotted a few ladybirds.

Here are our ‘Star of the Day’ awards for this week, well done everyone!

Just a reminder that all book bags should be returned on Monday. Please ensure numeracy scrapbooks are also in the bags so that the next task can be added. Thank you.

Have a great weekend.

Homework – Week beginning 15th November

New reading books have been issued as well as a class talk homework project, which pupils take part in twice a year. Please find the details of the homework project below.

P2 Class Talk Homework Project

Title: My favourite animal

Pupils have been given a project to prepare and give a short talk about their favourite animal. Some ideas might be where they live, what they eat or what they look like but you can include anything. You can decide how you would like to present the talk i.e. poster, photographs, bringing in items from home etc.

Children should practise their talk at home in order to be able to fluently talk to the class, they might want to use notes on paper to help them remember their talk.

Talks should be ready to be heard for Monday 29th November.

I look forward to hearing all of your talks.

Please remember to return book bags on a Monday so that new reading books can be issued.

Weekly Round-Up

This week Primary 2 have been learning about Remembrance and why people wear poppies. We have made our own poppies which have been put up on display to remember all the soldiers who have fought and died for our country.

In maths we have been learning to use tens frames to add and to practise our number bonds. We have also been creating our own story characters in writing. Have a look to see what we have been getting up to!

Here are our ‘Star of the Day’ awards for this week, well done everyone!

Please remember that all book bags should be returned on Monday so that new reading books can be issued.

Have a great weekend!

Thank you

A big thank you to the parents and grandparents who took the time to join Mrs Schendel and I for a ‘maths blether’ yesterday afternoon. It was lovely to see you and to have a chance to talk about the learning taking place in the P2 classroom.

Based on feedback given during our chat, I would like to ask that book bags are now returned on a Monday instead of a Friday. This will allow for more time to complete homework tasks over the weekend for those who wish. Book bags will be still be issued on a Monday with the activities for the week.

Thanks for your continued support.

Homework – Week beginning 8th November

New reading books have been issued today as well as a new numeracy challenge. Thank you to those of you who completed the last challenge, it was lovely to see the work completed by the pupils and to read the comments. Here are a few examples of completed tasks:

This week pupils have been given a ‘Firework challenge’ which has been added to their maths scrapbook. Pupils have also been given three coloured pens to complete the task. Pupils should use the three colours to see how many different ways they can colour in the rockets. They may also want to draw some rockets of their own, thinking about which shapes they can use to make their rockets.

Remember there is a ‘maths blether’ for P2 parents in the main playground tomorrow (Tuesday 9th November) at 2.45pm. Please feel free to come along and ask any questions you may have in supporting your child with their maths homework or to ask about the maths work taking place in the classroom.

Please ensure reading books and maths scrapbooks are returned in book bags on Friday.

Thanks again.
