Maths Week Scotland

What a start we have had to Maths Week Scotland in Primary 1 today!  We have been very busy learning all about numbers to 10 and had great fun in the afternoon designing and constructing models using the large Polydrons.  Please look in the Book Bag for some ideas of activities you could complete at home during our Maths Week.

Book Bag

Today your child was sent home with their own Book Bag.  Inside the bag you will find activities to be completed at home. In the bag there should be:

  • Sound Bag – with sound cards
  • Sound Book – for you to use to complete any sound activities or practice writing sounds
  • Maths Activity Grid – to be used this week during Maths Week Scotland
  • Maths Scrapbook – for you to use for any record any maths activity completed at home (feel free to stick things in as well)

Please bring the bag to school every day and keep all items in the bag (in particular the SOUND CARDS as new cards will be added)

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email us.

Home Learning Pack

Your child has been sent home with a Home Learning pack.  Inside you will find a number of different resources to help them complete activities at home.

Inside the bag there should be:

  • A white board, whiteboard pen and whiteboard rubber
  • A pencil, sharpener and rubber
  • A bundle of coloured pencils
  • A pair of scissors

If there is anything missing from your child’s pack, please let us know.  From time to time we may send home items that should be kept in the pack so please keep it in a safe place.

The home learning pack should be kept at home and not brought back into school.

Next week we shall be sending home another bag that will be called the BOOK BAG.  The book bag will contain their sound cards for practising at home, as well as any other homework activities, and it must be brought to school EVERY DAY as we will be adding new sounds regularly.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email us.

Week Ending 24th September

This week we started learning our sounds and common words.  We have learned the “a” sound and the “t” sound and we have learned the words “a, at and the”.  Here are some videos of the songs we have been learning to help us with our sounds

Next week we will be sending home sound cards which you can use to practise the sounds.

Here are some of the ‘a’ and ‘t’ activities we had fun exploring.

We have also had so much fun playing outside and are becoming so adventurous with the loose parts play.

Week Ending 10.9.21

We have had a fantastic week in Primary One.  In numeracy we have been learning how to form the numbers 3 and 4. We have been using play dough and pegs as well as making sparkly numbers.  We have also been practising counting and recognising numbers.

In literacy we have been continuing to work on rhyming words and made some beautiful rhyming rainbows.

We have also had great fun exploring some more of the resources such as the train set and the building blocks and this week we started brushing our teeth in class after lunch.  We did such an amazing job and just look at how clean and sparkly our teeth are in the photos!

Week Ending 3rd September

This week we have been focusing on rhyming words in literacy. We have been reciting nursery rhymes and playing lots of rhyme games.

In numeracy we have been exploring numbers to ten and focusing on the formation of 0, 1 and 2.

In the afternoons we have been enjoying playing in the classroom and also playing outside with the loose parts with Primary 2.
