Our Safer School Streets initiative starts on Monday 11 March. Please note that the safe “drop off” point is at the shops. You can safely escort your child to school from the drop-off point. The aim of the initiative is to encourage walking, cycling or scooting to and from school.

“A School Street involves a part time restriction on driving motor vehicles on roads around a school. During the restricted periods (weekdays from 8.40am -9.05am and 2.40pm – 3.10pm) only permit holders, blue badge holders, school transport vehicles (including contracted taxis) and exempted vehicles can drive on these roads.

We ultimately want to increase the safety of all road users and promote the use of active modes of travel to school, such as walking, cycling or scooting and hope therefore that you will be supportive of our aim to dramatically reduce the amount of vehicular traffic on the roads around your child’s school during these times.”

Dear parents

We recently hosted a visit from the Learning Review Team on the 21^st and 22^nd of February and I am delighted to present you with the published report which we only received yesterday, it is now available to access on the school blog.  The review team consists of a Quality Improvement Officer and two other Head Teachers and the focus of the visit is learning and teaching across the school.  The team looked through a range of evidence including pupil assessments and teacher’s planning, they visited all classes on a number of occasions and spoke with staff, pupils and parents before summarising their findings in the attached report. 

More than half of all primary schools across East Ayrshire have already had such a review and the team were particularly delighted with what they found during their time at Bellsbank.   You will see there are significant areas of strength across the school and I hope this reassures you that Bellsbank Primary School continues to strive to provide the very best educational experience for each and every pupil.  I am extremely grateful to all staff who give 100% every day and who collectively make Bellsbank Primary School a school to be proud of.  I hope you enjoy reading the report.

Diary Dates

Thursday 7th March is World Book Day. All children will be involved in themed activities in their own classrooms. Children are not asked to dress up.

Friday 15th March is Red Nose Day. All children are asked to wear “something red“. There will be lots of activities happening in each class. A £1.00 per child donation can be paid through ParentPay.

Changes to Best Start Foods

From 26 February 2024, Best Start Foods entitlement is changing.

Previously if you claimed certain benefits you also had to be below a certain income level to qualify. This is changing from 26 February as no income limits will then apply for those in receipt of Tax Credits or Universal Credit. Working Tax Credit will now also be a qualifying benefit for Best Start Foods.

If you previously did not qualify due to the income limit on Tax Credit and Universal Credit but met all other entitlement criteria, you could now apply again.

There are also some changes for young parents that extend entitlement.
