Term 4 – Website Overview

 

Literacy – This term we are continuing to focus on writing for a purpose. Primary 7 are looking at instructional writing, reports and essays. We will be learning how to write clear instructions, detailed reports and factual essays. We will read a variety of reports for information to help us with our own writing. We will explore writing persuasive and balanced argument essays. This will link with our topic of the European Union. In Term 4, the pupils will prepare a solo talk. The pupils will learn how to deliver a successful solo talk. The class will be provided with a success criterion that they must follow. The pupils will have time in class and homework will be allocated to prepare for their solo talk. The pupils will perform their solo talks to their peers where they will be peer and teacher assessed.

 

Numeracy and Mathematics – In Numeracy, we will be learning about the order of operations using BODMAS. We will be solving tricky calculations that must be solved in the correct order. We will be completing a variety of assessments in preparation for the transition to secondary school.

In Term 4, we are learning about time. We will be focusing on using the 12 hour and 24 hour time confidently. We will be working on converting between the two formats.  In addition to this, we will be calculating different time intervals using 12 and 24 hour time. The pupils will learn how to use, follow and calculate time intervals from a range of timetables.

Health and Wellbeing – In term 4, we are focusing on gymnastics. The pupils will work on different apparatus to create a group sequence. The pupils must follow a success criterion and ensure they include all aspects of the criteria in their sequences. Primary 7 will be involved in the Sports Championships. The pupils will compete in a variety of events including: high jump, long jump, netball shoot, football shoot, javelin throw and a variety of races. We have another block of PE with Cumnock Academy as part of the transition to secondary school.  

In Primary 7, we will be learning about Autism as part of Autism awareness week. We will be creating post cards and information leaflets to deliver to local businesses to raise awareness. This helps us work towards our Gold ‘Rights Respecting Schools Award.’ We will be learning about sexual health and how the body changes as we grow older.

IDL – This term our class topics are the ‘European Union’ and ‘Farming and Fertilisers.’ The pupils will learn about the purpose of the European Union alongside the pros and cons of being a member of the EU. We will explore BREXIT and what it means for the United Kingdom. In ‘Farming and Fertilisers’ we will be looking at where different foods are sourced from, fair trade and the use of fertilisers on our environment. We will attend Dumfries House to learn more about farming.

Mrs Hill is working with Primary 7 on drumming. The pupils will participate in group music sessions on a weekly basis.
