The various uses of plants.

Primary 4 and 5 have started their next topics. Both topics cover an aspect of the natural environment. The classes were introduced to the healing properties of common herbs such as: garlic, mint, chamomile, ginger and rosemary. All agreed the herbs aromas were potent.

Mindfulness

To launch Mindful May, P1-P7 pupils were intermixed to learn about mindfulness. A variety of activities were introduced as a way to show pupils how to concentrate on what they’re doing  at that moment and how they feel at that moment. Mrs. SB

Great Auchinleck Bake-Off Challenge!

Back in January, Primary 6/7 took part in a fantastic bake-off challenge. During the challenge they had to research different cake sponges and design their cake. Each group researched the ingredients they needed and searched for prices online and chose ingredients which would keep them under their budget. Pupils looked for special offers and shared ingredients with each other to cut down costs and save money.

After researching their ingredients and listing what they needed, we went on a trip to Tesco to buy the ingredients. Pupils in the class got to use a debit card using contactless payment to buy their ingredients.

The next stage was carefully following a recipe and baking the cakes and finally, the next day pupils were set a time limit to decorate their cakes according to their designs. Everyone who participated had a fantastic time from the planning and research stage to baking and decorating. As we have previously done the WW2 topic, we took the cakes to the neighbouring care home and shared them with the residents. The residents shared their stories of WW2 with us. They loved the cakes too.

This was a fantastic opportunity for pupils who learned a lot during the challenge. Fantastic effort from all!!

Electrifying Electricity

Primary 5 are having lots of fun exploring and learning all about electricity.  They have participated in some interesting science experiments where they have looked at how static electricity works and how electrical currents flow to light up a light bulb.  Pupils faced a challenge of building an ecological house that used electricity.

Science is so cool!

P5 Trip to Vikingar

Pupils Witnessed a Viking adventure first hand as storytellers guided them through 500 years of Viking history, brought to life through sight, sound and smell.  They entered the Viking Hall of Knowledge where  they continued the ‘Saga of the Vikings in Scotland’.  Finally an ice cream from Nardini’s ended a fun filled day.
