Good afternoon, and welcome back,

We have had a very busy few days in school. The classes are looking great and we wanted to let you know about a few updates we have had over the summer. The staff have worked very hard during the summer. Our children returned on Wednesday, and the high standard of uniform was excellent. Where possible we want to maintain this as this does lead to better behaviour.

We have continued to reinforce our values of Respect, Kindness and Achievement.

Our management team has changed this session with Mrs Haggerty is the depute for the infant department and Mr Simpson is the depute for Pr4-7. Mrs Gilmour-McGuire is the principal teacher for the upper department. We are delighted to welcome back Mr Dickson to the school. He will be taking on Non class contact this session.

Just a few reminders …..

• Remember to label all clothing especially jackets and jumpers
• Check menus to see what is on offer for lunches and if it is not something your child will eat, please send a packed lunch – PLEASE ORDER IN ADVANCE!!!!
• No toys to school – where possible
• Trading cards are only allowed on a Friday
• Make sure your child knows the arrangements for drop off and pick ups
• No fizzy juice – cans not permitted
• No nuts
• No dogs in the playground or inside the gates
• Please ensure you email or phone in your absences as texts will be sent at 9:30 – these must be responded to. Telephone 01563 549988 (ext 2)

Last session we had a big push on attendance and unauthorised absence. This is still a Scottish government focus, and we need to work together to ensure we maximise pupils’ attendance at school. Late coming and early pick ups was becoming a real concern last session, and we will be contacting families where this is becoming a regular pattern. As part of the family wellbeing fund, we were successful in securing a bid. This has helped us finance a parent’s room, parent focus groups and a community support worker called Gillian White. We are delighted to welcome Gillian as part of our team, and she can’t wait to work with our families across the school.

Every school day matters

A plea from myself to become more involved in our school community. It is essential that we have volunteers of parents, carers and grandparents to help our school. This can be anything from helping within classrooms to supporting the running of the parent council. Our parent council team is depleted in numbers again and for a school of 455 children we only have 5 or 6 members who regularly attend. Please help!
