We have started our community topic and went on a lovely walk, looking for signs of Autumn. We discussed how the weather is changing and it is getting colder, darker earlier and more windy. The children found conkers, acorns, pinecones, mushrooms and lots of colours of leaves. We looked at the items we collected and learned about the names of the trees they came from.

Science – Investigating how water changes from one form to another
P1 have been exploring and talking about how water is used in everyday life. We have been using the scientific vocabulary ‘melting’, ‘freezing’ and ‘boiling’ to explain what happens to water. The children had great fun experimenting with cold and hot water or salt to make the ice melt. The children also had super suggestions about how to save water. One suggestion was using a bucket to collect rain water and use it to water the plants.
During art, we used watercolour paint to make ‘Rain on a Window’ artwork.
Marvellous Me and Colour Monster
Our Term 1 topic has focused on Marvellous Me and The Colour Monster story. We have discussed what makes each of us special and unique and we have been talking about our families, sharing our likes and dislikes and learning about our emotions. The boys and girls did an amazing job presenting their ‘All About Me Bags’. Thank you for putting so much effort into these.
Phonics in Action
During literacy time, P1 have been learning a new sound each week. So far we have learned a, t, s and i. We have been enjoying lots of fun spelling activities to help practise how to form our letters correctly and recognise the new sound in words. We have also been focusing on rhyming songs and books.
Welcome to P1C Class Blog
We have had a lovely start to our school journey, getting to know one another, exploring our new classroom and settling into school routines. Have a look through some of our photos to see what we have been getting up to during our first few weeks – lots of fun, smiles and learning along the way. 🙂
