On Friday 27^th September, the Higher and Advanced Higher Music classes from the Academy were given the opportunity to visit Dean Castle, Kilmarnock. This educational experience was greatly beneficial as we were able to view rare instruments from the renaissance period as that is the time period we are currently studying.

Accompanied by two teachers and two staff members from the castle, we were able to view and learn about not only the instruments but the vast history of the building and its owners.

The two staff members were generous enough to take these ancient instruments out of storage to allow us to view them. This was an excellent way to expand our knowledge as we were not only able to learn about the instruments but also view them. From viols to war drums, this beautiful collection provided an extremely educational experience.
