Scottish Poetry Competition

This year our class competitions will be held on Monday 5th February and the finals will take place on Thursday 8th February. Please encourage your young person to learn one of the following Scottish poems. A paper copy will be sent home this week.

Polis  – JK Annand

It’s great to be a polis.
A muckle strappin polis.
    And stride upon my beat.
The Shoat cries, “The Polis”
To gamblers and to goalies
When I come up the street.
When we’re the traffic polis.
Motorists hae to thole us
    And draw up unco quick.
And gif the motor stole is.
We lift them holus bolus
And pit them in the nick.
Doctor – JK Annand
Up drives the doctor
   In his big car.
Comes ben the room
   And speirs hoo ye are.
“Stick oot yer tongue.
   Cough.  Say ninety-nine.
Let me feel your pulse.
   Hen, ye’re daein fine.
“Orange juice for denner.
   At tea-time, same again.
An aspirin for supper
And ye’ll be richt as rain.”
Robin Reidbreist
By J K Annand
Robin, Robin Reidbreist,
Happin on a brier
Oot amang the snaw and ice,
While I sit by the fire.
Tell me in your bonnie sang
That ye’re my frien sae true,
And I shall gie ye meat and drink
The hail winter throu.

Baarmy Bethlehem!

We made it to the stage today and it was a great success, but we still have lots of work to do.

For children who have lines can we please ask that they practise as much as they can and bring words to school every day.

Our dress rehearsal will be Thursday 14th December with a performance to families on Monday 18th December. We have costumes for every child but for the following cast members we need extra clothing underneath.

Sheep – Black trousers/leggings and black top, preferably long sleeve.

Cows/Oxen – Black trousers/leggings and black top, preferably long sleeve.

Donkeys – Black trousers/leggings and black top, preferably long sleeve.

Chickens– red t-shirt and red shorts/tights. We can source these items if you do not have at home.

Stars – White t-shirt and tights. We do have extra tights in school if you do not have any at home.

Angels – White t-shirt and tights. We do have extra tights in school if you do not have any at home.

All other cast members have full costume but may wish to wear a t-shirt and trousers/leggings underneath as it can be warm on the stage.

Thank you as always for your support,   P2 teachers.
