Viking Workshop

P3 had the pleasure of meeting Catherine who led us in a full day Viking Workshop.

The children had the opportunity to explore, investigate and play with Viking related artefacts and toys.

They enjoyed learning about the life and history of the Vikings as well as asking questions.

Sports Week and Onthank’s Got Talent

 

 

We are very busy bees this week in Onthank! We have started the countdown to Mrs Findlay’s retiral, our Sports Day is scheduled for tomorrow (weather permitting) and Onthank’s Got Talent is being shown to the  school on Thursday.

We have a special visitor on Friday, she will be leading a Viking Workshop with the children all day.

With all this in mind, for homework this week, look back through the previous weeks and consolidate your learning of times tables and time by playing your favourite games.

Homework 13th May

Your homework words are in your jotter. This week you have a choice

  • Write sentences for each of your words
  • Write a story which includes all of your words
  • Look back over the spelling grids from last term and choose 2 of your favourite activities.

We are looking at Fractions in class just now. So far we have been talking about halves and quarters. With the help of an adult have a think about some of these fun ideas to find fractions

  • Pizza time – cut a pizza into equal parts – can you find a half and then a quarter?
  • Cut fruit like apples or oranges into equal parts to show halves and quarters
  • Cut toast/sandwiches into equal parts to find halves and quarters
  • Have a go at some of your own ideas. How can you look for fractions in the house?

Homework 7th May

You will have your homework words copied into your jotter.

Write them out 3 times and either write a sentence for each one or write an imaginative story which uses all your words. REMEMBER your sentence targets.

We are contining with dividing and multiplying – have a go at some of these word problems. There are a few tricky ones – give them a go – it’s good to challenge your brain!

Remember your skip counting strategy.

Write out any calculations you do to work out the answers.

Remember your Bug Club has updated books. How many coins do you have in your treasure chest. Remember to answer the bugs to collect more coins!

We are going on our trip on Thursday 22nd May. If you would like the school to provide a packed lunch for this day, please order on line a few days before 22nd May. If you are providing a packed lunch, please make sure your child knows this so they can pass this information onto their teacher.

Homework 29th April 2025

You will have your spelling words in your jotter already. Please write them out 3 times using the LOOK, COVER, WRITE and CHECK strategy.

You have a choice today, either you can write a sentence for each word or you can write a story which will feature all your words. That could be quite interesting!

Whichever you decide to do, remember your sentence targets – capital letters, full stops, neat writing and interesting sentence starters.

We are learning about dividing in school just now and the link between dividing and multiplying.

Have a go at these calculations – remember your strategy of skip counting to work out the answer.

A couple of dates to remember, our trip will be on the 22nd May. We are going to Heads of Ayr Farm Park – let’s hope the weather stays nice for us!

Week commencing 2nd June, we will begin a series of lessons about RSHP as part of the Health and Wellbeing curriculum. You will have received an email about this already.

Homework 25th February

We have a new spelling grid for you this week. It is similar to the last one, but it has different activities for you to try.

As before, choose 2 activities from the grid for your homework. You may repeat an activity in the following weeks if there is one you particularly like.

Our new topic is Scottish Islands. We have been looking at the differences between the islands and the mainland. We have each designed an island on a map but in a couple of weeks we will be making a 3D model of our islands. For this we are asking for your help. If you have any cardboard (roughly shoe box or cereal box size) we would really appreciate this as we will use this for the base of our model.
