DYW General Resources

STEM industries offer fantastic career opportunities for our young people, and it is up to us as teachers to inspire our pupils and equip them with the skills they need to enter these industries.  The following sites will help you make connections between your teaching and the wider world of work.

Medical Mavericks

“EVERYTHING WE DO IS ABOUT OPPORTUNITY  At Medical Mavericks we are opening the door to the world around the students we see, just enough so they can get a tantilising taste that will drive their ambition and inspire them to find out more. If they want it, they will kick down the door to open it further and do what ever it takes to run through it into a world they never thought possible.  Our workshops support you, as a teacher, in getting students to want to go to school and get excited by school, education and their future. We provide the best equipment, staff and opportunity to do this.  We know it only takes one spark, one moment in a student’s school life that will change the rest of their life.  WE PROVIDE THAT SPARK!”

As well as running a programme of workshops, Medical Mavericks also produces a e-magazine which you can download for free, and a Careers Inspiration Pack focusing on some of the less well known jobs within the NHS, and their own TV channel.

Developing the Young Workforce – Career Education Standard 3-18

“Key document from Education Scotland, Skills Development Scotland and the Scottish Governement which “recognises the journeys children and young people make as they learn about the world of work from the early years to the senior phase. It sets out what children and young people will learn and what parents/carers, teachers/practitioners, employers and Skills Development Scotland will do to support their learning. Implementation of the standard will improve the quality and consistency of learning about work and careers. It will improve young people’s ability to make informed decisions about future pathways”
