FEIS ROIS week 6

This week, we had our sixth Feis Rois session. We learned a new song with Caitlin. It is a lullaby. We also designed a logo for our radio show, which we are going to do instead of a concert at the end of term.

Leafy Legacy

The P7 leavers of 2021 gifted us a Cherry  Blossom tree to plant in our school ground. One of the parents has been looking after it for us until it was a suitable time to plant it.

This is how the eco group planted this blossom tree. First they dug a hole 50cm wide and 27cm deep. It was very rocky and took lots of effort to dig out. Next they put the tree in and put some soil back in.They also put in manure to help make it grow. Then Mrs Jahn  and Mrs Redman put some support pieces of wood next to the tree and zip tied the tree to the wood. Finally they made a border of rocks around the tree so that the grass would not take the nutrients  from the tree.

We are all looking forward to see the new flowers on the tree and are excited to see it grow.

Soup and Sandwiches!

As part of our Health & Wellbeing and also Technologies we decided to make soup and sandwiches. We tried to make them healthy by choosing fillings and soup recipes that were good for you.

We made Vegetable soup and  Tomato & Basil soup. We also prepared a range of fillings for our sandwiches.

We learned and practiced cutting, slicing, peeling, stirring, grating, measuring, spreading, using tin openers and garlic crushers as well as cleaning and washing up!

P4 MATHS

P4 have been learning the 7 times table. They have only had it for a week and are already great at it. To help them learn it they are doing loop cards and a symmetry game. They are now learning how to divide by 7 and are also good at that. They are moving onto the 9 times table this week. They are also going to be learning about money and fractions over the next few weeks.

P1 Maths

To help us learn all about fractions Miss Murray brought in some apples so we could see how we could half them equally. We also learned how fractions were written, after this we cut out shapes and stuck them down and folded over where we thought the half should go. Finally we felt very hungry because we decorated our very own pizzas. Marlon’s favourite was Hawaiian pizza and so was Almas. This was such a fun way to learn about fractions and now I feel confident knowing what a half is.

Health and Wellbeing

In health and wellbeing we are finding out what a healthy diet might look like. We have created the Eatwell Plate, and discussed different food groups. Last week, we looked at lots of soup recipes and after much discussion, we selected two, which we will make today! We are making tomato soup and a vegetable one.

Here are some pictures of us discussing soup recipes:

Look for our next post about how it turned out!

Feis Rois week 3

This week, we had Blair instead of Paul. He plays the accordion. He showed us how it works, he showed us how he can make it louder or quieter, and how he needs to open and close the bellows to make any noise. We practised our Gaelic song with Caitlin, and then we played duck, duck, goose in Gaelic. We played a Gaelic rhythm game.

Feis Rois Week 2

Today we had our second week of Feis Rois. First, we did a warm up with Caitlin, where we learned some Gaelic words.                             Next, we looked at some instruments, on a PowerPoint that Paul showed us. The instruments included, fiddle, acoustic guitar, piano, accordion, bodhran (which is a drum), flute, tin whistle, double bass, and clarsach (which is a little harp).   We also watched a few videos of people playing the instruments.                                                                              After that, we sang our Gaelic song, and Caitlin taught us actions for it.  Here is a short clip, where Caitlin shows the actions, so you can practise at home for next week.                                                                                    IMG_7172                                                                                                                                  Here is a picture:

Robert Burns Day in School

On the 25th of January, it will be Robert Burns day. We will be having a traditional ‘Burn’s Lunch’.  Every pupil selected a Scottish poem to learn. We will all recite them during the week beginning  31st of January. We will also make a piece of art, like a model, or a painting, which we need to bring in by the 27th of January. A winner will be chosen, for both the art and the poems. We are looking forward to reciting our poems, listening to others and viewing the wonderful art work.

Feis Rois

Feis Rois are back in school again! Last year they had to do it over Microsoft Teams, but  now they can finally come into the building! The tutors are called Caitlin and Paul. Caitlin taught us a song in Gaelic, and Paul played us a song in Scots. We really enjoyed  joining in with the singing and listening to live music! At the end of term, we will be recorded, and we will make a radio show, which will be put on Soundcloud. Next week, we will learn some actions for the Gaelic song, and we will try to sing it faster.                                                                                                              IMG_8963                                                                                                                                IMG_8962                                                                                                                                IMG_8961                                                                                                                                  IMG_8960
