Author Comes Into School

On the 11th of November the author David MacPhail came in and talked to us about his books. He told us  that he had a very great interest in monsters, myths and ghosts. He told us about lots of myths and asked us about any other legends or myths we might know. He also said that he liked Vikings and that many of his books were based on them. David also worked with a man called Richard Morgan who illustrated his books. David said that he couldn’t have produced the books without him.

School Pudsey Day

On Friday the 18th of November Kirkgunzeon Primary school had a Children in Need Day. We got to wear bright funny clothes for it and we had a bake sale to raise money.   We raised £94. 84 for children in need.  After lunch we made some teddy bears clothes using cloth and pieces of string. Also we coloured in pictures of Pudsey bear. It was loads of fun.

Update On Feis Rois Music

In music time on Wednesdays we have been having lots of fun. This week we sang a song called Jimmy’s lost his marbles that was funny and was about a boy Called Jimmy that had lost his marble down a drain and it turned out Jimmy’s marble was in his pocket all along! We also played a game called bat moth moth which was a fun listening game. Every body stood in a circle and one bat and two moths were picked, the bat was blindfolded when the bat got too close to the edge of the circle then the people standing along the edge of the circle said tree this was to tell the bat that it was too close to the edge of the circle.  When the bat called out bat the moths had to say moth moth. This was to help the bat was to catch the moths. The game ended when the bat had caught both of the moths. The aim of the game was to sharpen your hearing . It was really fun!

The Amazing Poetry Competition

On the first of February we had an amazing poetry competition that was really fun (although there was a lot of tension, everybody was good sport). Prior to this event there were  competitions held in each of the schools  then the winners of  those competitions went to compete against each other. There was a junior winner (P1-4) and a senior winner (P5-7) .The Palnackie senior winner was Lacy, Colvend’s winner was Conner and  Kirkgunzeon’s  winner was myself, Nathaniel. The junior winners were  from Palnackie , April, Colvend, Katie  Kirkgunzeon, Isabella. The overall winner for the seniors , Nathaniel. The junior overall winner was Katie from Colvend!  It was very exciting!

I felt relieved at the end of the day but also really pleased that I had won.  I got a £15 book voucher and I am looking forward to getting some new books.

Halloween Party

On the fist of November we had a very exciting event. It was Halloween so we got to have a Party! The pupil organised this exciting event for us. First we did a game called corners, a game of pure luck!  We also played Chinese whispers and lots of other exciting and very fun games. On the day we also got to dress up. There was a costume competition and the winners were Charlie, Leigh, and Lina.  We had a lot of fun at the  Halloween party.

Bio Blitz

A bio blitz is were you dig a hole 20cm and  30cm down to look for worms. When you find the worms you carefully wash them off in a tray with a little bit of water but try not to drown them!

Or if worms are  not your stile you could look in a log or rock pile for little critters. It was very fun.

The School Christmas Enterprise

We decided to make some Christmas cards and decorations to sell as an enterprise for Christmas.

We made two different styles of cards and some decorations.

We made this card by panting old book pages green. Then we let them dry and when they are dry we ripped them into strips. We put different lengths of strips together in a tree shape  and added a trunk and a star.

The second card was made by gluing together two paper circles of different colours and folding them into a tree shape.  We then stuck them onto the card.

We made these gift tags for presents by cutting a bauble shape  form bright and shiny paper and adding in the detail with black pen.  These were sold in packs of five.

We also made peg decorations by painting pegs in different colours and adding on detail such at hats or scarves.

In early December we sold our cards, pegs and gift tags at the door of the school. They were quiet popular and we used the money we raised to buy Bluetooth speaker.

Secret Santa

Secret Santa is where everyone gets a secret person to buy a gift for. You put them all together in a bag and everyone gets a present. Mrs Alexander pulled all of the gifts out of the bag and everyone loved their gift 🙂

P7 Sports Leader Sessions

Every Wednesday afternoon, our Primary 7s – Sunna and Elha – go to Dalbeattie High School where some of the senior high school pupils lead us and the P7s from Dalbeattie Primary to do some fun Sports Activities! The last two weeks, we have been doing cross country at the high school, and it’s been very enjoyable, although quite wet and muddy! Next week we will be going back to the activities that we usually do every week, such as hockey, rounders and football.  We really enjoy doing these activities! We also get to meet the other Primary 7s who we’ll be at high school with next year! 🙂
