Secret Santa is where everyone gets a secret person to buy a gift for. You put them all together in a bag and everyone gets a present. Mrs Alexander pulled all of the gifts out of the bag and everyone loved their gift 🙂

Every Wednesday afternoon, our Primary 7s – Sunna and Elha – go to Dalbeattie High School where some of the senior high school pupils lead us and the P7s from Dalbeattie Primary to do some fun Sports Activities! The last two weeks, we have been doing cross country at the high school, and it’s been very enjoyable, although quite wet and muddy! Next week we will be going back to the activities that we usually do every week, such as hockey, rounders and football.  We really enjoy doing these activities! We also get to meet the other Primary 7s who we’ll be at high school with next year! 🙂
-Sunna and Elha
On Tuesday 17th we had sports day. In the morning the P7 set up a warm up to get our hearts pumping. We then had potted sports. We had stations that were hurdles, chest pass, javelin, long jump, hockey dribble, shuttle runs, and beanbag toss.
We had 5 minutes at each station. When we completed all the stations we got to choose which station we wanted to do again. We each had two adults helping out in our groups. They kept our scores, and later, when we had done everything, including the races, we were told which team had the most points overall. 🙂
On May 12th the p7s went to have lunch at the high school and try some of the classes. Most people enjoyed the lunches, the options that day were pasta and pizza. The p7s were there from 12: 30-14:30.They tried science, home economics and a scavenger hunt, not everyone got to do all the activities but when they go back in June they will.
Recently the red group in the big room have been learning about BODMAS which stands for: bracket, order, division, multiplication, addition and subtraction. Mrs Raymond has taught them how to do this. When using BODMAS for a sum, you need to use the order of it to find the correct answer.
For example: (42 ÷ 7) x 2² + 23 = 47Â
On the 27th of April Senga from Active Schools came in and taught us how to play table tennis. It was a 3 week block that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Throughout the 3 weeks everyone improved a lot and had a lot of fun. During the 3 weeks we played noughts and crosses, matches (Boyd and Maisy kept the scores), horse racing, balancing game and learned the three points: distance, how you hold the bat, how to stand.
During the lessons every week we were practising our serves, and finally on the last week we got 15/15, meaning everyone in the class manage to do a good serve to Senga.
In the afternoon we walked up to the hall to do the individual races. When we got there we went into our groups. After the parents came we started the races, the first race was a normal sprint this race was really fast, then the second race was egg and spoon. Then it was the sack race. The older ones had to start lying down and the p1, 2, 3 and 4 got to start in the sack. Then we did the skipping race and the bean bag scuttle. Lastly we did an obstacle course that the p7s made. To end the day we did one final relay race. We then found out who won gold, bronze and silver medals.
This term we are doing the Vikings for Topic. For one of the lessons, we did art, and we made mosaics of a Vikings head. It had to include a beard, hair and a helmet with horns. The groups were Embers Rising (Elha, Joe and Jess), Immortal Dynasty (Nathaniel, Logan M and Boyd), Warrior Culture (Sunna, Lily and Alek), Germanic Guild (Ania, Nika and Maisy) and Human Shield (Harry, Isla and Anna).
Ember Rising’s Viking head was called Bob the First, Immortal Dynasty’s was called Mr M B (for “Messy Beard”), Warrior Culture’s was called Barry the Barbarian, Germanic Guild’s was called Tim Kardashian and Human Shield’s was called Toad. We enjoyed using different techniques to make mosaics.
In another lesson we made posters of a Viking Longship, that were drawn and labelled. The groups were slightly rearranged. Embers Rising and Immortal Dynasty stayed the same, but Warrior Culture became Alek, Lily and Harry, Germanic Guild became Germanic Gold, and it was now Ania, Sunna and Isla, and Human Shield became Nika, Maisy and Anna. Embers Rising were given a printed Longship and had to colour and label it, while the rest of the groups drew the whole thing. Germanic Gold and Human Shield had to label and find out about the prow, the hull, the sail, the oars and the shields, while the rest of the groups only had to label and find out about the prow, the sail and the oars. We had lots of fun drawing and finding out about the Vikings means of transport. ♥ 😀
After 20 years of working here Mrs Redman has sadly retired. The last few weeks before here retirement, the parent council and the students donated money to buy a special retirement gift for her. Over the last few weeks students brought her balloons and flowers which she gratefully accepted. We tried to make the last few weeks as enjoyable for her as possible. Max from Dalbeattie high school went round the high school and collected signatures from everyone who came to Kirkgunzeon Primary School for Mrs Redman. Just before her send-off Kellie took a photo of all of us with her in it plus all the teachers which got framed and given to her for a present. On April 1st we said goodbye by waving to her and giving her the gifts. It was very emotional and we hope she has a good retirement. 🙂
On Wednesday we went to the Cocoa Bean factory. We started outdoors in the play area, and then we went in to make the chocolate.
First, we got a chocolate bar mould, with white chocolate and milk chocolate in it. We got to use our finger to swirl it into a pattern we liked. We then got to put sweets and sprinkles on top. We then wrote out name on with melted white chocolate, in a squeeze tube. We also got to have face paint, using the white chocolate in the squeeze tube.
We then made whatever we wanted to out of three marshmallows, using chocolate as glue. Ania and Sunna made chocolate lollies, because the marshmallows weren’t vegetarian. We got to decorate the marshmallows and lollies with sweets and the melted white chocolate, as well as milk chocolate. It was a competition, for who got the best marshmallow creation or lolly. One group went first and Elha won that one. In the other group, Logan M won.
We then got to play inside and outside for the rest of the time. We had a great time, and we are looking forward to getting the opportunity to eat our chocolate! 😀
