Bottle Top Sign

Ta-dah!!!!!!!!!
Delighted to announce that our recycled bottle top sign is now finished.
The pupils all contributed to its creation and we’re feeling quite pleased with the results.
Many thanks to Sharon and Roy Hiddleston of Solway Recycling Ltd for the recycled backing board,
John Maxwell ( Logan M’s dad) for his free consultation & also for sourcing the adhesive from Kenny Rae of Rembrand Timber Limited at Dalbeattie who kindly donated this. Thanks also to our families and friends who all saved up their bottle tops.
And finally to Ron, our stand-in janitor, who helped put the finishing touches to the sign and fix it in place.
Let us know what you think of our latest recycling project.

Altogether Time Health

Every Wednesday we have Altogether Time with Palnackie and Colvend, one of the things we do together is health and Mrs Graham from Palnackie teaches us.  We are in three different groups, they are P1-2, P3-4 and P5-7.  We are all learning about our feelings and how we can help ourselves and others when we are dealing with difficult situations. P1-2 are learning about a character called Zippy who helps them to understand their feelings.  P3-4 are hearing stories about a character called Apple and they are learning about all the different feelings we have and how we can help each other when we have big difficult feelings. In P5-7 we do passport which is about emotions and dealing with them. Every week we get a page of comic and have to talk about it and we do tasks which help us understand our feelings. It is very good fun and we all look forward to reading the next comic.

Altogether Time RME

During Altogether time Reverend John comes in and teaches us about Christianity, we all have lots of questions for him and he is always happy to help explain things to us.  We have been learning important stories from Christianity like The Lost Sheep, Daniel and the Lion, Jonah and the Big Fish, Abraham and Sarah and the Christian Creation Story.  We discuss the story and what lesson it is trying to tell us and Reverend John explains why each story is important to Christians.  We have found it really interesting and  there has been lots of discussion.

All Together Time PE

At Altogether time we do PE with Miss Bell and Mrs Miller. We have been focusing on football. We have been  practicing passing, shooting and control of the ball when we are moving.  We have to keep an eye out for spaces to move into and teammates to pass to.  When we are shooting we have to remember to stop the ball and aim carefully so that we can score a goal!

This P1/2 warming up in the hall.

Altogether Time Drama

During  altogether time with Palnackie and Colvend we do drama with Miss Bell.   We have been learning about the plague in the middle ages and acting out events from history. It was interesting to learn how the plague started many many years ago, we all think it  must have been scary with the deaths! The we have been learning lots of drama skills like co-operation with others, sharing ideas, acting out events and planning scenes together.  We have enjoyed presenting our scenes to our peers and giving each other feedback.

Soup Making

On the 22nd of September we made soup with the with the vegetables that we grew in the school vegetable patch. (Look at our other blog post to find out more about that.)

We grew leeks, potatoes and carrots and decided to made leek and potato soup. We all worked together to wash, peel and chop the vegetables and then to add the ingredients to the soup maker.

Later on the parents came and tried some, we had it with tiger bread on the side. Everyone agreed it was delicious!

Toothbrushing Talk

At the beginning of September representatives from Child Smile came in and talked to us about cleaning our teeth. It was  surprising how much sugar is in perfectly healthy foods !  We spooned sugar into a puppets  mouth and we watched it get fatter and fatter. We learnt that fruit smoothies are really bad for your teeth and fruit juice is also bad. We found out that you are only supposed to have a maximum 5 teaspoons of sugar in a day but we should try to avoid it if we can.  Now we all clean our teeth in the afternoon after our lunchbreak to keep our teeth clean.
