World Book Day 3rd March

On the 3rd March, it will be World Book Day! Everyone can come in their pyjamas if they want. If they don’t want to, they can wear school uniform.

We will have fun activities throughout the day. Everyone will be put into groups, with a P7 leader. Please note that you should listen to  your leader. There will also be a house challenge in the afternoon.

We hope everyone will have fun and this will encourage people to read more books!!!  World Book Day - Live Lesson - BBC TeachUnread Books at Home Still Spark Literacy Habits - Scientific American

Rugby on Tuesday with John Muir

On Tuesday 22nd of February we had a rugby session  with John  Muir from the Stewartry Rugby Club.

We did all sorts of games and skills to help  us learn about rugby. We had lots of team games to improve our dodging and passing . It was quite tricky throwing and catching the rugby ball as it is such awkward shape.

We are going to have 4 more sessions of this and Mrs Magee and Mrs Miller are going to do Rugby lessons with us on a Friday too! So  hopefully by the end of this block of rugby we will all be much better players.

If anyone is interested in joining the club speak to Charlie in P4 as he already goes every Sunday for coaching and matches.

Outdoor Learning With Mr Laidlaw

On Monday the 21st, we had a visit from Mr Laidlaw. He is a Stem Development Officer. He did outdoor learning with us

First, we drew around our shadows using chalk, so that after and hour we could see how far our shadow went.

Then, we made boats out of things we could find outside, like sticks and leaves.

After that, we drew seven lily pads each, and then we got three sticks and three stones. We had to solve a puzzle, where we had to switch the places of the sticks and stones. They could only move one space forward, unless they were jumping over another thing, in which case they could move two.

FEIS ROIS week 6

This week, we had our sixth Feis Rois session. We learned a new song with Caitlin. It is a lullaby. We also designed a logo for our radio show, which we are going to do instead of a concert at the end of term.

Leafy Legacy

The P7 leavers of 2021 gifted us a Cherry  Blossom tree to plant in our school ground. One of the parents has been looking after it for us until it was a suitable time to plant it.

This is how the eco group planted this blossom tree. First they dug a hole 50cm wide and 27cm deep. It was very rocky and took lots of effort to dig out. Next they put the tree in and put some soil back in.They also put in manure to help make it grow. Then Mrs Jahn  and Mrs Redman put some support pieces of wood next to the tree and zip tied the tree to the wood. Finally they made a border of rocks around the tree so that the grass would not take the nutrients  from the tree.

We are all looking forward to see the new flowers on the tree and are excited to see it grow.

Soup and Sandwiches!

As part of our Health & Wellbeing and also Technologies we decided to make soup and sandwiches. We tried to make them healthy by choosing fillings and soup recipes that were good for you.

We made Vegetable soup and  Tomato & Basil soup. We also prepared a range of fillings for our sandwiches.

We learned and practiced cutting, slicing, peeling, stirring, grating, measuring, spreading, using tin openers and garlic crushers as well as cleaning and washing up!

P4 MATHS

P4 have been learning the 7 times table. They have only had it for a week and are already great at it. To help them learn it they are doing loop cards and a symmetry game. They are now learning how to divide by 7 and are also good at that. They are moving onto the 9 times table this week. They are also going to be learning about money and fractions over the next few weeks.

P1 Maths

To help us learn all about fractions Miss Murray brought in some apples so we could see how we could half them equally. We also learned how fractions were written, after this we cut out shapes and stuck them down and folded over where we thought the half should go. Finally we felt very hungry because we decorated our very own pizzas. Marlon’s favourite was Hawaiian pizza and so was Almas. This was such a fun way to learn about fractions and now I feel confident knowing what a half is.

Health and Wellbeing

In health and wellbeing we are finding out what a healthy diet might look like. We have created the Eatwell Plate, and discussed different food groups. Last week, we looked at lots of soup recipes and after much discussion, we selected two, which we will make today! We are making tomato soup and a vegetable one.

Here are some pictures of us discussing soup recipes:

Look for our next post about how it turned out!
