Congratulations to Katie Butler who competed in her latest triathlon on the island of Arran at the weekend.  Katie is increasing her stamina and strength as a competitor and is loving competing at this level.  Katie came fourth place in the junior girl section.  Well done Katie.

Congratulations to Davey Walker who competed in the Dumfries and Galloway Schools golf competition.  This was the second opportunity for Davey to participate having done so last year.  Davey was very proud to show his trophy for the “two hit to one ball challenge” that he won with Kaleb at Stranraer Golf Club.  Davey has improved his handicap again this year.  Well Done Davey.

Congratulations to Ivy Richardson on winning the prestigious title “Brass Band Player of the Year” this year.  Ivy was very proud to show off the trophy she earned for all her hard work and effort in her musical ability.

Hard fought rugby games were won and lost at the rugby festival yesterday.  All of our partnership schools; Kirkcolm, Leswalt and Portpatrick upper primary classes attended the fun event organised by G and C Keith and our rugby development coach Andy.  While Kirkcolm were not outright winners the children’s expertise and natural talent shone throughout the day.  Sheer grit and determination was required in all matches with stamina and resilience overcoming some trick manoeuvres.

P6/7 enjoyed the company of Mr Butler in our class last week.  The children were challenged with the task of using a part of their body that was about one metre to estimate and then measure the outdoor furniture in the playground.  Back in the classroom the children analysed their results against actual measurement to determine how accurate they were.  The children had a really great fun experience.

All three schools in the partnership had a very busy but informative day at Operation Safety.  All emergency services were there to pass important safety messages as well as how to keep safe online.

P3-5 have a enjoyable day in the sun using their numeracy skills to measure the exact size of a Viking ship with chalk.

They then went on to show their creative streak by building and designing their ship from there.

I would say it looks like they all did a pretty good job!

The pre-Royal Wedding celebrations were thoroughly enjoyed at school today.  The children dressed immaculately in their finest attire and showed off in the photo booth later this morning.  Thanks to Anne-Marie for the marvellous buffet.  A wonderful time was had by all.

Kirkcolm had a glorious day of outdoor learning both in our own classes and collaboratively.  P1-3 started their day using natural materials to help with numeracy and maths.  Challenge cards helped the children to count objects in rows totalling 10, estimating numbers of flowers in a set area and building 3D shapes using sticks and measuring.  They went on to literacy to find objects for each letter of the alphabet.

P3-5 were finding directions using a compass for maths, they have worked very hard in groups and pairs to record their answers.

P 6 and 7 started their day with a brisk run for 10 minutes calculating how many metres they had covered. Next the children selected maths challenges covering measure, number calculations and problem solving activities.

Together we have weeded and tidied our planters and raised beds.  We would like to thank everyone for the kind donations of plants and seeds that continue to make our school grounds so beautiful.  This also helps us to evidence biodiversity and school grounds towards achieving our eco green flag.

At the end of our busy day the children used the last of their energy for a fun whole school game of rounders.
