Kirkcolm Primary School

– what have we been up to?

Week 1 of Forest Schools

We have been incredibly lucky to have been able to source the expertise of Mr Richard Pattchet, a leader in delivering Forest Schools, for a block of inputs to the boys and girls across both Leswalt and Kirkcolm for the next 6 weeks!

Richard came to us for week 1 today and took both classes out for a chance to examine some wildlife! P1-4 went on a bug hunt and up turned many an item in the playground and found many a bug on their way! They learned a lot of different facts today like; centipedes only have 50-60 legs (not 100!) and worms really do grow back when cut! 🐛

P5-7 went pond (burn) dipping down by Fisher’s Lane and we sampled a few different spots and eventually at the bridge we hit it lucky by finding some Caddisfly Larva, a very clever little thing which sticks random bits of twigs to it’s body to camouflage itself and a little fish! 🐟

It was a very good session and we all (myself included…) learned a lot from Richard!

Excited for what next week has in store with… Ropes!
