– what have we been up to?

Electrical Safety

This afternoon we welcomed Mrs MacPherson’s husband Richard from Eco Gen in Stranraer to speak to the children about electrical safety. 🔌💡
Richard explained the importance of keeping safe when using electricity and the potential risks and dangers. He explained how we can do our bit at home and school to be responsible by not touching switches with wet hands, switching off electrical devices and utilities while out of the house, how broken and loose wires can cause accidents and the steps we should take to avoid any problems! ⚡ 🤩
After talking about the seriousness of electivity he also showed us lots of fun experiments to do to show how electricity works. He had a plasma boy which showed how electricity goes through  transformer which the boys and girls were just amazed with. We also had some fun with static energy, which showed us how electricity can be stored in certain materials such as rubber. We used a balloon each to create an electrical charge by rubbing the balloon against our hair to create friction and quickly afterwards watched our hair stand up on our heads which gave us all a laugh!!🎈
Richard very kindly left us some Eco Gen merch after answering many weird and wonderful electrical questions – a big thank you for Richard for coming in to speak to us and make sure we know how to be safe around Electricity! âš¡
