On Saturday the pupils of Kirkcolm Primary enjoyed their sponsored Mini walk in glorious sunshine. The 49th annual event was well supported with pupils, parents, staff, friends, babies, dogs and other assorted relatives. The first walkers (primary 1-3) set off at 9am and not long after that, the older pupils were on their way.
Robin Mc Auley was the first boy home, almost equalling his record breaking time of last year over the 7 mile course. Young George Keith came in as second boy and Davey Walker came in third.
Katie Butler was first home for the girls. Grace Carrick-Buchanan was second. Izzy White and Olivia Turtle were third equal, after reaching the school doors together and Olivia graciously let her friend in the door first.
Once all were safely back at school the assembled crowd all enjoyed a wonderful feed which was kindly donated by parents and friends of the school. All the walkers were able to relax and refuel on some delicious soup, sandwiches and home-baking.
Hopefully this event will help raise lots of money to pay for the school trip next month. We look forward to hearing how much sponsor money has been donated. Many thanks must go to Mrs Becky Richardson and all the team who helped organise, marshall and support the walkers.
Next year it is the 50th anniversary!
